Racing competition
This simply a suggestion, but I think that there should be some sort of a consistent track where everone could rate their cars on. The idea is to design a track that would test a cars limits so that people could compare times to see who's car is really the best. I personally am really interested in the cars that you guys are building, but I think we should take it further so we can race against other peoples times. I would suggest some sort of a track, but I am not good at such things. So I guess it is just a suggestion, but the main thing missing is competition.

I like your idea, but the problem is, many of the people who visit here have families and such and barely have time for the hobby, let alone to set up a track and race. But your first post was good, so stick around.
I can see a track using a certain barrier type, eg the zipzap barrier kit (as example), that way the track would actually be exactly the same, allthough racing surface and such plays a large part. It's a good idea, anyone else have any thaughts ?

hi man, welcome to Bitpimps!
I think the difficulties with comparing times will all come down to the cars and the surface. - the cool thing about RC is that you can build cars to go stupidly fast for big tracks, or slower for more technical stuff. horses for courses.
Personally, I think that setting a 'standard' track would take away the fun and creativity of it all - bit like Nascar or the Australian Supercar championship - everyone would just have basically the same ride...

"You guys are Wack"
"Wiggity Wack?"
"Nope, just regular kind"

this is the 1:28 scale version of what you're suggesting:

it's a pretty expensive thing to set up if you wanna do it properly.

Hue35 and I set up an oval with a bend out of ZZ barrier walls and a ZZ lap counter, and it was pretty fun doing time trials on it.
Hue just bought a new piece of thin foam for the surface, so when we get it set up again, we'll post up a picture and the layout. It requires at least two ZZ barrier sets, maybe three. I think we were down under 3 seconds per lap over 6 laps.

We even talked about this same exact thing, Young Gun. I still think it's a great idea. The main dilemma we saw was exactly what you're saying, S2k... RS barriers and a ZZ lap counter puts everyone on the same page, but the surface is a definite factor. I don't know, though... lap times are lap times. I'm kinda on the fence about whether that matters so much, as long as the layout is the same.... track surface could be looked at like tire choice, really.
The track I'm going to put together will have an RCP-like surface. The best part about that is that it stays really consistent, which is maybe even more imortant with Bits than Mini-Z's. The only drawback with foam is that the extra rolling resistance sucks a lot of power from the car. Hard tires fix that, though, so it's all good.

I've tried to get this started before at other places. You guys bring up a big factor with the surface issue. But another huge one is cheating. When you have your time trials and post them here, how do you know the person even raced?
I think it would be really cool to get like a point series going, and have a race like every weekend or month or w/e. There's still a lot to get worked out too.

Well, most of the guy's here are adults, and i'm hoping we are all mature and honest enough not to cheat. If they do decide to lie/cheat, it's on your conscience not ours.zzapultimate wrote:I've tried to get this started before at other places. You guys bring up a big factor with the surface issue. That's why you use different motor/gears to suit your track, pulsing with your fingers for turning and such, once you get used to it, it's cool.SHAUN wrote:It sounds like a good idea I would be more into drag racing than a road course, I just can't control a bit on a road course with out propo.
