I have no idea on the batteries but as for the cage...I was thinking piano wire since its light and absurdly strong but then I realized that the learning curve on bending it without breaking is kind of steep. Also it relly needs to be welded with a mig or a tig. Brass rod is easy to work with and should be more than strong enough but since it looks like you have enough weight I'd aviod it. SO, I think your best bet would be styrene rod. Your LHS should have some, its easy to bend (a hair dryer helps soften it) and insted of solder you can just glue it.
It looks like you did a good job on the cage you made though. So I'm not sure if I answered what you were concerned about

Nice work, but personally, I feel the MAN body looks too long and top heavy, or in other words just awkward.

Re: My stretch zzmt crawler
UPDATE
Well i was starting to get some really bad torqe rolls on my crawler and the rubber band thing just wasn't working out and it looked dumb anyways. so i made a suspension system that is similar to the one RRB did on his toyota. Also on the silverado body i had to trim the rear end for full articulation.
check it out
now it crawls like a charm
