Motorworks tanks at Kaybee

Post by crazydave »

I'll spare you the details, since most of you guys have seen these.

Anyways, I had been watching my local Walmart for these, and I never saw them at my backwards walmart. I just thought it was really odd I found them at Kaybee instead, I thought Motorworks was a Walmart thing.

I thought it worked really well. I was playing with it in the dirt out front, and it had no problems. I want to stick some FETs in it. It has plenty of power, and it's pretty fast for a tank, but more is always better.

Any rate, for $7.99 they're a pretty good deal.

Hmmm, that good eh? They don't get stuck on a papperclip eh? With the track plans I have, this may be a welcomed addition.

Yeah they go off road really well. I'm gonna make a vid playing in the dirt.

Hog what was wrong with your tracks? Mine were a little loose. They did all right, but sometimes slipped on inclines. So I shortended them by cutting and glueing them. That totally solved the problem, but now ones slightly tighter than the other, and it pulls to one side a little. I'm trying to stretch it out.

...but doesn't anyone think it odd they're selling Motorworks at Kaybee?

Being they are almost half what Walmart was charging, it makes me think they are clearing them out for them. Which frustrates me, because it's like, if my damn Walmart just stocked these in the first place, then maybe they wouldn't have to clear them out.

I had a loose tread on mine, too... I just dropped it into boiling water for like a split second, and that solved that.

I stuck FETs in it. It's got too much power now.

Anyone want instructions to FET these?

I think maybe it could still be faster. I checked while I had it apart, and with a little creative trimming a ZZ SE battery should slip right in, but I don't know, it's pretty fun right now, hate to mess it up.

Hang on, I'm gonna shove a SE battery in it today, then we'll make a vid.

Since the tank is already geared for power the FETs don't have any drastic effect on top speed. It does take off with an instant jerk, turn tons better, have longer runtime, and nothing stopped it, except being high centered or trying to climb something too tall that it makes it flip, but otherwise it's pretty much unstoppable.

I was testing it out on my bed, and it was too easy, so I drove off the bed, across the bed room, and out the door. I had to make little ramp to get it out the door, but then I drove it off the porch and across all the dead grass, leaves, and twigs, made it all the way to the back fence and back, only had to back up a couple times. I was pretty impressed by that.

Well I realized it wasn't my treads making it wander to one side, when I just tried switching the treads. So I stacked the FETs on the slow side, that helped, but it still wandered reall bad on flat surfaces. So I dug out a old Motorworks motor I had laying around, hoping it would match up better, and replaced the slower motor with it. It turned out to be almost as fast, as the other was slow, so then it pulled the other way. So I swithed the FET stacks to the other side, and it's almost balanced on the carpet, but still pulls to one side on tile. So I packed the gears on the fast side with grease, and it's nearly perfect enough.

Now the fun stuff. So I crammed an SE battery in there. It's probably twice as fast, but that's not very fast, still it's just sooo powerful, and quick, and turns on a speck of dust. It's pretty fun. 8-)

I'm painting now, I'll have it ready for pics this afternoon, and have a vid in the next couple days, in the meantime here's some pics of the insides to tide you over.
