Zip Zap MT motors rock!!

Post by crazydave »

I don't know who, what, where, or when, but I remember someone saying the motors didn't have any torque.

Maybe I misunderstood, but here's my point of view. I tried them with the stock green gearing, since it would only be fair to compare the motors with the same gearing.

The Red motor rocked! It was popping wheelies everywhere and going nuts. It had a nice increase in top speed.

Being so pleased with that motor, I skipped the yellow and went straight to the orange. It didn't have as much torque, which I liked because it was harder to pull a wheelie, and keep it under control. It does have decent torque off the line, kinda slow in the midband, and then picks up in the top end.

I haven't tried the gearing yet, I but I wouldn't doubt the fastest one would be sluggish. Notice that the gearset adds 3 more to the stock gear, giving you 4 total gear ratios, compared to the 3 available for the Zip Zips previously. That gives you a wider spread. 16:1 is nearly half of the stock 24:1.

I think at this point I might be able to get away with the red gear on the orange motor, but I'm getting excited, because I'm pretty sure I'll be able to pull the faster gears with FETs, then this thing is gonna scream. I'm really thinking if it's as fast as I think it'll be, I might not need to go dual SE batteries. We'll see, I got some FETs on the way.
...crazy man, crazy...dig it.
