rechargeables in TX
(as he bows)
I am not worthy I am not worthy
Another question to the RC Gods. From bits/zips to Mini-z's - I hear different things about using rechargeables in your TX's. So whats the story? Good or bad?

No they aren't. You should never use rechargeables (unless it's a TX pack) in a Tx. Think about it. The voltage comming off of one rechargeable cell is 1.2V. Alkalines have 1.5V. The amount of range you get is directly related to the voltage running through your Tx. With rechargeables the power just isn't there. In a full size using rechargeables, you are missing 2.4V under alkalines. With a micro, I'm not sure how much it matters, but I would think a higher voltage would be better for charging the battery in the car. Now available current does play a part, and NiMH do have more available current than alkalines.Bit boy wrote:rechargeables are the norm in full size transmitters. Never seen em used in a micro transmitter though.
I think this is right. Ph2t, Code, any of you electrical guys care to comment?

It was my understanding rechargables were the norm in a full size transmitter. Most controllers even have charging jacks. After all 8 AAs can get expensive every time you accidently leave your radio on.
Bit controllers, I don't know. Since it's a charger and controller. Someone else will have to comment on that.

1/10th is my area of experitice. I've always heard that rechargeables were bad, unless you use a TX pack. The charging jacks you talk about are for these packs. They are made for that. I was talking about not using AA rechargeables. It was my understanding rechargables were the norm in a full size transmitter. Most controllers even have charging jacks.
