Well, I suppose he's just being stubborn, maybe, perhaps. And the method for calculating gear ratios has been discussed on other forums. But here it is, anyway: www.gcrossett.com --then scroll down to the ZZ site. Enjoy!

6t pinion off of stock steering mtr
32t outer drive gear
8t inner drive gear
32t odg
8t idg
32t odg
8t idg
42t final drive gear
by my calculations:

32/6 = 5.333333333
32/8 = 4
32/8 = 4
42/8 = 5.25

5.3333333 x 4 x 4 x 5.25 = 447.999997

final ratio = 447.999997:1
i used to be cool

Really nice thing you got there!

I LOVE the shells with the roll bars, they look like the ones that are on sprint cars or demolition derby racers...are they made of metal or painted plastic??, where did you find them???

fj40 bodies are completely from scratch. I started with a thin piece of sheetmetal and bent it to form the hoods. Then I used 1/16" aluminum tubing and bent it up for the cages. Everything is held together with super glue. VW is a matchbox I hacked up and made a rear cage for. I was thinking of making a few and throwing them up on ebay. I'm not sure it would be worth it cuz it takes about 2 days to make one as I have to glue each joint as I go. The cages are wicked strong and have survived multiple falls from table tops and constant rolls while wheeling.

I really like the clean craftsmanship I've seen on other people's rides on this forum so hopefully some others will take this idea and bend up some sweet rockcrawlers.

I got my tubing at the local hardware store but they have since stopped ordering it. I have enough for a couple more tho.

Sorry chilli, I was off having fun with g/f on her spring break :-o Besides, I only tell people of your site on Tiny; if somebody wants to be a Pimp, I can't just give the info to them.

I really like those bodies, they really manage to pull off the look of the dedicated use professional trailer-queens! And the Exo-cages with the pre-runner bars are just awesome. The Baja bug is cool, but I'm not sure I would have back-halfed it as severely (even though it does have a modded hood for something watercooled) Are the front tires on the white "Toyota" installed on the wrong sides, they don't look self clearing.

Very cool.

I hacked the front off of the bug to move the center of gravity forward even tho it doesn't look quite as cool. It's a steel body so it's heavy. The holes drilled in the roof and hood are to lower the center of gravity and move it farther forward. This was my first attempt at a custom body for the rocks.
I reversed the front tires on the white fj40 in an attempt to gain more traction in the front. It seems to work better but it could be my imagination.
I use these strictly for rockcrawling so I'm not too worried about them caking with mud. http://bitpimps.lixlink.com/pages/phpFo ... php?t=7601
Thanks to everyone for their help and input. I'm stoked I found this site and other zip zap heads modding the crap out of these things.
