As you know, pimps are generally ahead of the curve. OG pimp Noxorc created something similar about 3 years ago. Do a search for "noxbox". Unfortunately, all the old links are broken, but I believe he basically added a serial interface to a standard bit controller and wrote some simple software to control it.

I powered and tested the line following board. I have posted a video online. For the first bit I had it too high and it didnt trip properly, but it works as it should.
