That's pretty sweet man. I wish I could go with a full size crawler.... maybe my Grand Cherokee TSi will turn into one one day.SHAUN wrote:Real 1:1 wheeling is the best. no better way to spend your time.Nasphere wrote:All you crawler guys are bull shit

For now, I am going to have to enjoy Bit crawling. I am trying to find a beater 1:8 crawler on the Bay for cheap and go from there. I've never dabbled in this stuff before the last six months... now I am hooked. I want to go bigger. the wife is just going to have to fuckin' deal with it.

I got the idea for this crawler while at my city's 4th of July parade. There were some old vets riding in a few sweet ass Willys MB's (completely restored... axe and shovel handles on the side thoroughly oiled, even). I thought to myself, "that would be the shit with some 44's." So, a week and a half later, here I am.

Buying an already built one is the cheapest wat to go but not the same as building it yourself. This site has loads of info as far as setups etc. Happy hunting.

Thanks man. I want to buy a used crawler with decent components (steering mechanisms, transfer gears and differentials..etc) that I can use later on in a custom project. Something to basically just get my foot in the door and then go from there. I will check that site out for sure.redrustbucket wrote:Check here there's always rollers and parts for sale:

Here is a short video of the Willys crawler in action. You will notice I don't have the proper gear reduction (ran out of green gears), but it still does OK.

Found some better tires. They are off of a quad, but they are slightly larger in diameter and also wider. The quad was called Super ATV from Family Dollar.
They fit onto the rims I made for the other quads but the inside ring is larger than the outside. Instead of a beadlock type fit, I had to glue the outer tire to the rim and leave the inside open and unattached. This is good because when you hook up on a rock they flex considerably more than the others.
Pictures might help....
they are much bigger... in fact, if they were a taco hair bigger, they wouldn't work.

Since the inside of the tire is not attached to the rim, it can flex and really hook the rocks.

They look better on this truck too...

Man, I'd really like to try out a set of those tires. This may be too much to ask but any chance you could grab a set for me? I'd gladly pay the purchase price plus shipping or maybe we could work out a trade? Let me know.
Thanks , Jeremy

I'd be happy to do that man. I will pick up some more today. How many sets?redrustbucket wrote:Man, I'd really like to try out a set of those tires. The ATV was $2 I think, and a huge POS. The tires are the only thing salvageable. I took it out of the package and accidentally dropped it on my kitchen floor and the thing broke in three places.

I am pretty happy with them so far... I mean it when I say, "if they were just a tad bigger, they wouldn't work". It's close. With the open "channel" in the back, you can add and take away lead sinkers easily to get the front end weight dialed in. I just let them roll around in there and it seems to work good.

I didn't have time today, but I will shoot you a PM tomorrow. I am going to pick up a another set for the new mini crawler I am working on.redrustbucket wrote:How's 3 sets sound? At that price a few would be good to have. Let me know when you've got 'em and I'll PM you my address so we can work out the shipping. Thanks bro!
I started working on the transmission today... it's still a work in progress.

Figuring out how to make micro u-joints is a SOB. These are made out of antenna tube and bb's.
