I started a new build for my brother and thought I would try and post progress pics as I go.

Here's what I'm starting with.

Mock up for w/b.

Tear down.

Image

Beginnings of chassis hack.

I'm a little farther along than the pics show but I always run into trouble taking clear close-up pics of this tiny stuff. My camera just can't handle it.

Oh God no! Your stuff is way too good, now I'll feel like crap until I do something other than paint(badly)...Christmas is ruined...I blame you. :-)

So propo huh? You must like your brother more than I like mine.

Well, the body mounting tab looks like the Stompers.

No propo. I just steal the reduction and batt. from the se. Tried using the se board a couple of times but could never get the steering worked out.

Yeah, it's a stomper. Toyota mini off of ebay.

Thought I'd post this up to keep me motivated on it as I'm easily distracted by other projects. Should be a fun winter distraction provided I make it through the lay off at work and don't end up relocating.

Dude, that Toyota was one of my favorite Stompers!

Well, and the Chevy LUV, Silverado, Cherokee, etc., but the Toyota was right up there.

Wait, what's the plate for? Is it just to close the open space or are you planning on attaching something to it? :???: Looking good, I'll be following this one...mostly to see what ideas I can steal.

That plate fits against the bulkhead on rear section and stabilizes the tube for the lengthened driveshaft.

Exactly. Otherwise the rear axle walks all over the place causing the rear pinion to slip. I'll screw and epoxy it later as there's more brazing to do first.

Oh, good to know, I was going to use some sort of locater arms on Armageddon but that might just be a simpler, better, solution. Thanks. :-o

Got most of the front end done. Frizzen called it when he said it would be a PITA to attach a pinion to the planetary reduction motors I had planned on using for steering. The reduction was 20:1 on the motor x whatever the stock reduction was. My hydrosteer mod puts the reduction at @200:1 if I remember correctly so I'm sticking with that for now.

Stock cover plate for steering assy.
Image

Trimmed bottom of motor slot flush and reduced nubs where pins fit by about 1/2 top and bottom.
Image

Shaved down 3 gears for steering. Remove material to thickness of gear and shave backside of gear flush as well. Basically just making as much room as possible to fit 2 extra gears w/o compromising gear mesh area.
Image

Pic with stock gear for comparison.
Image

Gears added ready to be installed.

Back together again.

There's more to come soon. I have no jobby, job now so I've got time on my hands to hopefully crank a little more out.
If anyone needs any aircraft structures repaired let me know I'll be right over. :-)
