Yeah, that's my set. I didn't bother with the 3 duplicate body buggys. The grass is "Ready Grass" vinyl mat from the Hobby Shop train section, it's a flocked thermoset plastic so you can easily make terrain with it using like wadded newspaper and a heatgun.

One guy around here used cutdown ZZ-M springs in these. He said it helped.

I could probably pull one back open. What details do you want? just an all out exploded? I really like that the knuckles are break-away without getting into the steering box at all.

You've got 2 melt-pins at front, and 2 spring hook things at the back, lift up the steering box upper plate. *Watch springs* Next thing you see is your magnet steering rack, below that is the axle beam and the pivot it floats on, under that are the magnet coils. forward end of box has a tiny magnet on a stick for steering trim.

The Ready Grass sounds really cool, how pricy is it?

Rule of eBay: Always check shipping. $59.99 cost + $59.99 shipping. $120 total for 6 Micro Terrains. Sweet Deal. Not!

Yep. I recently found a Bit on sale for $15.95...plus $30 shipping. Not so 'on sale' after all.

Got the Grasshopper. My local TRU did a major restock, they must've had 2 full cases out. Looks like the assortment only contains Hotshots, Foxes and Grasshoppers. The others were nowhere to be found. Hopefully that means they're in a later assortment.

Can't remember how much the grass cost, probably around $5-ish? I just wanted a more scale BG and it's cheaper and faster than making a whole photoshoot diorama. (Still need to make one...)

Rebuild in text

With an empty front end it has the coils - if you took them out have fun,
make sure the magnet-stick trim adj. is in (magnet up),
install the axle - rear end first then front make sure pivot freely,
install steering linkage - draglink type thing goes forward,
install springs on axle,
install top plate - make SURE springs align before locking down,
install knuckles,
dot of glue on melt posts at forward end of top plate.
Ride on

Dang, that sucks.

My little Grasshopper has really crappy steering. It goes fine one way, but not very well the other. When I pick it up and watch it from the bottom, the wheels turn noticably more one way than the other, unless I go quickly back and forth a few times. That seems to loosen it up or something, but it still doesn't work on the ground.

Maybe it still needs to be worn in? I guess if it doesn't work in a few days I'll have to exchange it. I'll hold off on opening this one up until then.

After taking one to work to play with on break, I've decided I need more LEDs angled to the sides. The angle of light beam is too narrow for me to be happy with, filing the lens off would help diffuse it, but also reduce power output some.

Pop the knuckles out, and check all the wear surfaces for flashing.

Are the bodies glued on to these? Seems like I tried to remove one of mine and I began to crack the body...

Yeah, they are glued on the sides. you have to work the sides loose carefully before you can undo the rest. I took a sewing needle and worked the sides loose, but if you try it be careful not to get up into the board or wires.

I've found using a standard utility blade on mine works great. There's enough blade area you really don't have stress risers where it'll start a crack. Worked for me on 6, forgot what else I tried first.
