today i got an idea of making like a half track from my old zip zap.im go n to cut off the back cuz where the rear axle pops off it it so warn out that it can move around in there and come undone. im go n to try and pick up a vs tank clone from toyeast. i might use 1 of my black silverado bodies. i will also put some off road tires in the front. sound cool.

Great idea, sounds WAY cool!

I mean this to add to your ideas in case you hadn't considered these, not in any way trying to steal your thunder. I was kicking that one around a while back too, as a Half-baked idea. I thought probably go with a motor-steering ZZ so you can put some weight forward enough the steering might be able to overcome the tracks wanting to drive straight, and thought keep it 2 channel by wiring motors in parallel maybe with a trim-pot to make it track straight if needed. (My clone tanks tracking was also much improved by swapping the stock motors for a pair of Bit motors, guess they were spec-ed tighter or something.)

If you need to tighten the turning radius, lower the mounting (or lightly spring) for one of your tanks road-wheels, little less contact patch on smooth; but it would rotate easier, and on rough or soft where you need the traction you'd still get the benefit of tracks.

If you really want to go full on bat-shit crazy, you could add circuitry so when turning it reduces power to the inside track. Maybe use a ZZ-SE front, but treat it as just a straight motor rack without any input from the pot; have the pot wired back to the drive motors. Should give a voltage boost and cut between the tracks to improve turning radius.

I'd really love to see how this comes out!

i know i cant wait either. exept here in alaska vs tanks cost $60 for a set of 2. my dad does not let me shop online or ebay when ever i want to. my grand parents do tho. thanks frizzen and sidewinder for the tips.

Uh, why do you need to kill a VS Tank for this?

But if you do it, really you need to build the right body. M2, M3, Deuce&Half, APC, Rommel Rod, Kettenkrad, SdKfz 11... Deserves more than a chopped Silverado body!

I don't know if they still have them, but Walgreens had those little dome stunt cars that are driven by 2 motors - one for each side-. I don't know if they have those stores up where you are, but they were onle around 6-7 bucks.

Those in my link *appear* to be the same tanks that I've had for several years. If so, they're just nice basic tanks. Full function drive, manual pivot turret, no fire simulation system. So really no expensive stuff that you won't use in this build anyway.

Dual cell, motor/transmissions are in back, drive wheel is top aft, road wheels non-powered. It's just a tank.
