first project zzmt

General discussions, new info, and all stuff that's how you say, off the hook. Bit, ZZ, SE, MT, SS... as long as it's micro, it's here.

Post by reaper »

well iv been here for a wile now posting a little lurking alot :-)

im an xmod guy through and through but a few months ago i got some zips in a joblot of xmod parts , after finding this site i was inspired to build a crawler

well this is her as she stands now this has been my rest break project i.e just doing small amounts every now and then
i started with the articulation mod (well der) then went on to add gears to the main drive , this im not so happy with and will be changed (see below)

ok enough chit time for pics :)

Looking good, it's been a while since I've seen a truck build. :-o

Interested to see how the planetary drive fits for the steering. The one I used was shorter ( 20:1 ) but I added a couple steering gears as well. What's the reduction on that one? It's a PITA to fit the pinion too but they work well.

Drive motor looks good but I had issues with the length there too.

wow the man himself
just so you know i stole er i mean borrowed most of my ideas from your builds

the 6mm motor is a 1:136 ratio giving 200rpm @ 3v i haven't got it yet but its on its way
at the moment the wheels wont even turn when on carpet so even if slow at least they will turn with that motor
yea i can see the problems that will arise fitting the pinion but will cross that bridge ...

the drive motor is in and works great
1:26 ratio giving 250rpm @3v this is about perfect when run through the stock gears on the MT

I actually drove to the convenience store after that post and bought a frozen pizza, oh, and got a hot dog and giant Coke while there. So, yeah, maybe.

Great looking truck! The steering gearmotor looks sweet!

I can see why that inspired him, the pizza was in focus.

624:1 by my calculations using the stock green gears. Nice.

3x spur gear mod netted me 448:1 IIRC. Se gearbox is significantly lower. What I really like about those planetaries is that you may not need to rob parts from discontinued models.

Hope to see pics/video soon. Got a link to where you picked up the planetary motors? I'd like to check out some specs, thanks.

at the moment im running a pinion made from a gen1 xmod servo gear as they are the same size shaft so ratio is a little higher , but a stock pinion will work with a bit of modding

hers is the link they carry ALOT of micro motors including the main and steering motors ive used :)
