MS Pro, too much hype??
Any pimps who have 2 speed bits or ms's, feel free to chime in yo...
OK, I finally broke down and picked up a MS Pro today at TRU. At 19.99, I figured I wouldn't get one much cheaper.
I took if for a spin and I am sitting here wondering what all the hype is or what I am missing? First thing I noticed, is the car when not boosting and just taking off, is SLOW to take off, much like first gen ZZ's. And it is NOISY as hell.....but when you hit the boost button, it is much quiter and if you hold the boost and then hit forwar, it takes off faster. Not meaning top speed, I mean take off speed.
I understand the concept of the boost and that the current is cut back and then boost button allows full potential, but I guess I was expecting more...
I haven't tried any other motors yet, could be the 2.2 that comes with, but man, I was kinda let down.
Any advice? Any others notice this or may I have a jacked up ride out the box?

Yo.
I feel the same as you...the poor speed, the noise, the build up to speed.
Guess I just wrote it off as different.
I try to run mine in booster mode all the time, and then back off when needed.
I believe some different motors do cause a different noise, but the ticking is still there.
Duel cell the puppy, that helps in the slow mode.

naw mang, you got it pretty much right...
- yup their noisey suckers
- very slow unboosted on take off (not top speed)
- I'm a firm believer that the driving situation dictates what motor is good. an example is on my track, 2.2 is great for warm-ups, actual racing a 3.0, any more and you'll be outta control in the technical sections (this is where the boost button really comes in to play for me and my driving preferences)
my personal preference is to run boosted all the time and unboost when I need to (in corners).
I like my pro's - they're probably #2 on my list, #1 being the Tomy Nissan 350 Z (that things just bad to the bone)

I've been messing with Zip for a while. I just picked up 2 MS Pro's, and I pretty much feel the same. Too slow unboosted and niosy as hell. Also, the control is a lot worse than the longer wheelbase Zips. I was thinking about getting into bits until I played with these. Hopefully, the Super Bit I have coming is better, or I will be selling my Bits.

I can't believe how many people out there (other sites too) don't prefer the 2 speed booster...
How can 1 speed be better than 2? I agree about the noise, but a little bit of noise is ok with me as long as the car performs well. You can also cure the noise problem by popping a CD in the stereo.
IMO, it's all about the set up. ie. motors, gears, and batts. Before you throw em to the side, try some different set ups.
I use alloy rims, strong 2.6, and a 150 nimh batt, and it runs great. This is a Tomy 350Z chassis.
Could the MS pros be funky or something???

Yo
I messed around with it a bit, and tried some other motors. I can definately see the benefit of 2 speed, without a doubt, I just gotta toy around with it a bit more.
I am getting more of the feel of it, but without a track, all I have is the hardwood floor at my store and we waxed it last week before we opened....
so damn if I don't just slide the hell around. My whole house is carpeted, and I'll just toy with it some more at the shop.
Speaking of shop, those near me, who can make it, we'll have our first race in a couple weeks. We'll run either EM 1.0's or 1.6's(depending upon how the track is when we get it done.) All comers will recieve a free EM motor that we use.
Will probably be on a Wednesday, round 6 PM or so. Might be tough for some, and we may do a Sunday Noonish race sometime too.
At any rate, we'll keep ya all posted and man, I'd sure like to see some of ya pimps make it by. I am dying for some good competition!!!
We are in Princeton, Indiana. FYI, about 2.5 hours from NellyVille(IE St Louis), 1.5 hours from AliVille(IE Louisville), about 1.25 from MellenVille(IE Seymour(Bloomington), about 2 hours from NappyVille(IE Bowling Green KY), about 2.5 hours from WhyStoreVille(IE, Indy), about 1.5 hours from ClabberGirlVille(IE, Terre Haute), about 5 hours from RKellyVille(IE ChiTown), about 1 hour from JohnnyDeppVille(IE Owensboro KY), about 9 hours from ShawnMullinsville(IE Decatur/HotLanta GA) and about 28 or so hours from FabriceMorvanVille(IE LA)
Email us if interested in coming and we'll get ya some directions. And if you come from any of those cities listed above, please bring the celeb/s listed with you....or just pick up Sirena Williams
along the way, that'll do just fine yo!!!!!!!!
Bring some spending $$$ we got ALL the hot clothes at our store, Snoop, Outkast, RocaWear, FUBU, Sean John, Johnny Blaze, and more, oh yeah, EM Motors and stuff on the cheap!!

I was attracted to the idea of a 2-speed car, in my desire for something more proportional, but I'm not very impressed with the MS Pro. I wonder if the Bit-Char-G version is better, because everyone with one of those is really happy, and Namuna, basically proved it's putting out slightly more power than a stock bit, but that doesn't seem so with my Pro.
I wish the unboosted was a little faster and smoother, but it serves it's basic purpose. My big complaint is the awkward position of the button, and just the whole system confuses me. I'm used 1/10 scale, where the 3rd button is a brake, and I keep forgetting to boost on the straights, and boosting into the corners. So then I just end up frustrated, and POed, and it's not easier for me to drive, like I had hoped.

yea, personally I wish they ran boosted all the time and the button used to "un-boost".
this is getting me thinking, wonder if zz 2.0 propo will have a new controller, like not stick or button style, but wheel & trigger style - that'd be da bomb and would making boosting or un-boosting much easier.

i just jbwelded a thunder charger. thats all ive done to it so far and man for a single celled car it drives like nothing ive ever driven. you dont need to slow down around corners because it coasts enough. my complaint about mspros is the horrible range. other than that they are good chassis. just swap the pcb out and put in a real motor and it isnt so bad.

hmm, to tell the absolute truth, i was pretty pissed off with my auto modellista set when i fired it up. it wasnt the lack of speed that pissed me off, but the lack of range. fortunately, i got used to it pretty quick.
the speed is fine to me, and with a 3.2, it's nice and quick, but doesnt flip much w/o boost.
if you can get over the range, then it's good fun on a smaller track. however, most of us just go for pure pants-shitting-wall-smashing-breaking-bodies-in-half speed... and boosters just plain arent made for that, unless you can do the anti-boost mod
