From what I understand from OTP at HitlerVille Forum, you can add a nine volt but you need to get a voltage regulator??? or whatever you call it to drop it to five volts, as this is the most that the boards in the TX's can handle. This will charge dual and tri celled cars, but you also get a nice range increase as well. Single celled cars can benefit from range increase from this mod, but charge them on a separate station.

From what i have gathered, the tx pcb regulated the amount of voltage to the charger plate ( this was in a Zip controller, dunno bout bit) so even with a 9v the car wont receive a bigger charge. But you can rewire the charger up directly to the 9v and not go thru the pcb and then it is recommended that you use the 5v regulator like todd stated. There was a rather large thread/tutorial kinda at a different site on this.
