Micro Speed body sets

By now you've probably heard Big Lots has replaced the Thunder Chargers with the Micro Speed cars. I've been waiting for mine to get them in, and I finally got a hold of one last night. They have different, slightly improved bodies now. Instead of the fake Imprezza, we now have a faux Mercedes, an artificial Skyline, and an imitation Lancer.

Here's the Mercedes, and skyline wannabes.

They have body sets for 1.99. One included the Skyline, and Lancer wannabes, I had no interest in those, even for a 1.99, but the Hummer, and pickup set is kinda cool.

I can not wait to slap some paint on these, but I always have a problem with paint sticking to cheap clone bodies, and I don't have any cash for primer right this second, since I blew my extra cash on the cars.

I think I'm just gonna give them a good sanding, and go for it. If I blow it, oh well, I can blow another 2 bucks when I get some primer.

Are they still only 5 bux? And is the quality good (in clone terms) and does it have the notorious pink clone motor?

They are now 6.99. The quality is as good if not better than Thunder Chargers. The controller is uncomfortable with the car's dome in the way, but works great as a charger base, and the cars can be controlled with a Microsizer controller with no mods. The motors are not the notorious Pink endbell ones, they are a purplish blue color that could be easily mistaken for a Zip Zap NX motor. They are not as fast, about like a 2.6, but still plenty torquey. No more 7-tooth pinion, these have a standard 6-tooth, but the gears are smoother. Instead of the 120mah NiMH battery there is now a 50mah battery it's not marked whether it NiCd or NiMH. If it's NiCd I consider that a bonus. I prefer the Thunder Chargers 6-spoke wheels over these bit wannabes, but the tires are improved, and grippier.

In summary, they are just ever so slightly improved over the Thunder Charger. They are still a bargain at 7 bucks, but at 5 bucks for the Thunder Charger with the pink clone motor, those are a slightly better deal if come across any left overs.
