People like that pray on the un-informed buyer. At christmas people were selling "fast and furious" body kits for $39.99 starting bid. When the torinos came out I saw a seller listing them for $40.It all comes down to if you are smart you will get a good deal ----- if you are stupid you will over pay .

I hate the ones that try to jack you for $14.95 shipping.

I have a theory on the high shipping prices:
Doesn't eBay take their cut as a percentage of the selling price of the item? So say the final auction price is $2.00 with $14.95 shipping. The seller would only have to pay commission on the $2.00.

Totally against ebay regulations , report it and if they are found to be inflating shipping to avoid fees they will be kicked off , I have reported people for this in the past and yes , ebay boots them.

Superfly is right though. I see large variations in shipping costs for similar products all the time. I've seen shipping as low as $3.95 and as high as $15.00 for a bit or clone.

Pops told me that Ebay charges sellers a big fee....a very, very big fee....to host their items online there. Keep in mind, the high price may be to make up for the money they gotta dish out to advertise.

listing fees are .35 for an item{ excluding vehicles and real estate} under $10 starting bid.The higher the start price the higher the listing fee.
final value fees{ if your item sells} start at .05 and go up from there.
plus paypal charges fees to the seller if the auction is paid via that method.
The fees are high yes , but alot of people are financially independant b/c of the wagon loads of money that can be made on ebay.It all comes down to finding a good supplier of popular items.

I think another reason people offer an item up with a small price and huge shipping, is that they're bankin' on someone getting excited about the cheap price and forgetting to look at the shipping charge. Especiallyif someone finds the auction when there's a minute to go. I bet that happens a lot. There's really nothing the buyer could do at that point, except feel stupid and pay the tab. If they don't, they'll get bad feedback... most folks would just pay the $25 for the $6 item, to avoid neg feedback.

I agree hue, that's why it irks me, because I believe that is their intent, most of the time.
...and ebay fees aren't that bad, when you consider the advertising and promotion they're giving you. Worldwide exposure, TV ads, magazine ads, etc.
I had a Fender bass, the local pawn shop would give me $400, the guys on the Fender forum said it would be valued at no more than $500. It went for $750. Ebay took 7 bucks, than sounds like a deal to me.
...but yeah, if you gonna pick up brand new stuff at your local RS, and try to sell it at cost on ebay, you're gonna take a loss on the ebay and paypal fees. That's what you get for being stupid.
