I just ordered my own Holy Grail. Did I get a good deal?
(If this thread doesn't fit, put it where it goes please )
Here's the scoop: I've seen for a long time that the Auto Modellista set(Tomy/hobbico, it's all the same) is pretty damn elusive, so much so that I could only find it on eBay with a half reasonable asking price-actual list MSRP is bullshit in my opinion. I was browsing Tower Hobbies for a 27 and 49mhz pair of kits to change out my existing LXX stock. Well, in their Scratch & Dent area, I found the Auto Modellista set in both 27 and 49, and got both for the hell of it, and here's why: They were $18.50 each!! On a lesser note, I also needed 2-speed controls, which is a plus. My total order, inculding a drift axle+suspension kit, was $45.98. How does that sound? Is there a better deal out there?
Oh, I might sound like a kissass, but due props again to DarkTari on his suggestion that I shop there. That shop is too fly!
Any take on this is appreciated,
Abe

Ah yes, the mythical $5 AM set at Dollar General. Good luck finding one of those. You might have back around the first of the year, but I don't think anybody is seeing those now.
Seeberg, you did fine. I paid about $24 for my Tomy AM set. When you get yours, let me know if the MS AM set has the extra decal sheets for the cars. The Tomy set includes extra decals for the bodies that say "Capcom" and "Automodellista" and such. I've been wondering if the MS set comes with those too.
Stagg, some of us are freakin addicts. We're trying to fill out our collections before the supply dries up. And even if you're not in to AM, the set is pretty cool b/c you get the four bodies.

I was gonna, but these bodies aren't exactly common, especially the R32 Skyline. The regular Pro series all have bodies I have multiples of already.stagg wrote:yea man i picked it up as my first bit for 12 bucks at my lhs. Why didnt u just get normal pro's? i mean, whats so great about this set.?
For all that weren't fans of AM, the game, I can see why-it was short and somewhat limited. But it had online play and the bonus Tamiya Kakegawa cirucut was sooo cool that I had to make a competition size 4'x8' Bit version, and I did!
Too bad they have no Dollar General stores in my area, but there are substitutions, especially for Thunder char-G's. I'll start hunting them down when I get the time. They still come with the 'pink clone' motor from time to time, don't they?

Dear Life Cereal, Where do you get off? Part of a balanced breakfast and delicious? Who do you think you are? By now you may have guessed I'm speaking ironically and have nothing but good things to say about what you do. Life cereal do not change a thing.

Personally...these are my favorite "stock" shells for a "bit" chassis:HirotoR34 wrote:Okay, being a recent recipient of an AM Tomy set, I feel it is my duty to tell you to do whatever you can to get the set. It's so nice to finally have shells that don't need modding. I can just pop em on and go.
Yeah....you could mod the chassis to get a bit lower, but they don't need it much. Those shells don't need to be touched.

Yo seeburg, get in your car and drive to Portland. They've got a whole shelf full of Microsizer Automodellista sets in both flavors at Fred Meyer for $14.99. The real deal at Tower is the Speed sets for $2.49. For those that don't know, they are basically a complete chassis with a clear Lancer shell. No controller, but the best deal going for a real Tomy chassis.

Same here-I had San Andreas since the day after Christmas, and it wasn't until about a week and a half ago that I started playing it, after polishing off MGS3:Snake Eater. I've been sucked in so much since that I can't get shit done, ya know?payaso wrote: That is a killer song, and have been hearing it alot in GTA SA lately..

To superfly: It's a pretty good offer, yeah. But here's the thing: I use more than 27 and 49 mhz frequencies. Now, I could get a shitload of those and some 3.0 lucifer motors on my next order for all my bro's that raided Goodwill for Atomic Z cars and Panther bits and shit, so it's not a bad suggestion, not at all. As far as Portland is concerned, I got no ride at the moment, but my sister lives in Hillsboro and commutes to Portland all the time. I could ask her to check up on that shit, for real.
And to Sdog: Aren't those bodies available from ToyEast? I gotta order more heatsinks and batteries from them soon, among some other miscellaneous parts. I kind of blew out some of my NiMH and NiCd batteries charging on my 800ma 3vdc charger setup, before realizing that the stock 3x AAA batteries would blow out any stock bit. I wonder if those 200mah batteries are still worth getting?
Gotta bounce, I gotta watch Robot Chicken. Late,
Abe
