New Zip Zap Wheelset
I was at the Shack picking up some crap, when I came across these.
They looked pretty cool, and for $4.99 I figured what the heck, I could use some more fatties. Here's a close up in the sun, to show off the bling factor.
I was surprised to find there's a few extra tires included. A full set of 4 of each fattie, plus 8, instead of 6 fattie adapters. Here's break down as described on the box.
I was also suprised to find them experimenting with compound and shape.
Here's the Hard Slicks. They are not slick, but they sure are hard. Rock hard, think drifting tires. Note the inside edge has no lip, so it's easier to slip on.
Here's the off road tires. They seem to be of a medium compound, similar to like Super Slick tires. Notice they have a extra thick sidewall,, but just on one side.
At first I thought the larger sidewall would look cool on the muscle cars, but then I realized, because it's only one side, it's gonna be uneven, and it was.
Nice try, but not quite on that one. Luckily the Precision tires are good, so all is no bust. They seem to be of a slightly softer sticker compound, have a nice flat profile, even on the wheels, and a have a cool tread pattern that looks like some kind of high speed V-rated thing. I like these tires.
Just to check out the look, I stuck them on my vette. They don't look bad, but ultimatly, I didn't think they work with my vette. The 5-spoke ones would probably look nice with any of the truck bodies though.

yesh. I got that wheel kit too and was having trouble getting those stupid wheels to go on. I still havn't figured out how to get them on without making them uneven. I thought perhaps they fit a certain type of rim, but I don't think they do. Also, they do not fit on with no rim piece. I have to vote on those funky tires.

Chrome plated wheels have always been a tight fit. Since all these wheels are chrome plated, you'll have to take an excato blade, and scrape the plating off the edge where the wheel goes into the hub. Be careful not to take plating off in the front, where it can be seen.
Also pay attention to the little nubs where they came off the molding trees, I had to trim a couple of those off to.

I have the same wheel set.
I thought I just had a set that was manufactured poorly or something. I never investigated further, so it's cool to see this thread.
You can pull the extra side-wall down over the wheel so it's not uneven, but then it partially covers the wheel and looks 'funky'.
(in a bad way)
Would there be any reasoning as far as cornering is concerned with this extra side-wall?

yeah, september is the rumored release date for xmods stuff(so says radioshack regional manager for the south east)...
I understand that the propoganda given to employees is even worse than that spread to the general public (spread as in manuer), but the store managers taken to the "new product" demos were told in the xmods seminar that the new xmods *QUOTE* "Makes the old stuff look like match box cars..." That excited me a little, but you really never know.
God I am hoping for alloy. I hate my hacked GPM tierod that rubs on my AWD setup sometimes. It is dremelled to damned death, but I can't seem to get it right. Alloy parts would be fantastic. If they would put a powermanagement board that could handle 3A of constant current in there, I would go buy a brand new one (even if it was $25 more).
Fuck, the first nelly showed us just how inexpensive good power management can be, and he HAND MAKES THOSE! Plus he makes more per hour that those Chinesse fuckers with thier little hands. Do they use miniature soldering irons? I wonder...
