Dual Cell Battery Pack
I made a Dual Cell Pack that can be easily installed in a ZZ and maybe in a highly modified bit. No soldering is needed ( pre soldered) All you is cut/dremel the plastic "nubs" in the bottom of the chassis tub and drop the new pack in.
Basically i just soldered a small wire from neg of one to pos of other. ( i kept the batts going same direction and parallel to each other, so this wire is a diagnal from bottom of one to top of other batt)Then taped up the pos that was soldered. Then taped the 2 batts together tighly in a little "pack". Then soldered a small wired on the other batts positive and ran it straight across and left the stripped end lie on top the first batts positive end ( which is taped up) Thus creating a new contact point. Now just install as above and push this wire down between batt and contact to make a good connection. (use a knife or small screwdriver). Voila . No solder needed to install or remove this pack. can be installed or removed quickly from a ZZ. And if a bit was "tubbed" out big enuff would work for an internal on a bit too.
Heres 2 pics of the top/bottom of the pack

not yet
actually its the positive side i had to tape up and run a new wire from other batt over to make new positive terminal. And nope havent had any problems yet. This is the second one i did. The first one i put in my ZZ about a month Ago and its been fine since, but that one i never made it into a "pack" with tape and all. I just used tape on the one end to cover the solder joint that went to the other batt and wedged the new wire between the taped end and the terminal. 2nd cell is just loose inside the first one. I kinda like the compact "pack" i made. Works nice and if someone didnt have solder capabilities, this would be a good way for them to dual cell their car.kwikbb wrote:Kewl ez, that's an original design! Hows it working so far? Have you needed to change the e-tape on the neg. side of the battery yet, do to heat?

The tape is good quality Scotch 33+ electricians tape. It should hold up pretty well .
I was gonna try heatshrink but i havent found any yet that looked to be big enuff for this. Heatshrink would create a nice factory finish job i think

I had both my bit dual cells removable for a few months, worked out okay but there were a few issues.
- if the car took a bad-arse spill, most likely the connection was lost because a wire is out of place or the battery is "ajar".
- if the battery got jarred out of place, putting it back in would sometimes cause a short because a miniscule whole would be worn through the tape and I'd have metal to metal contact on the terminal.
I decided to just say screw it and dedicate a car to dual cell only.

Dear Life Cereal, Where do you get off? Part of a balanced breakfast and delicious? Who do you think you are? By now you may have guessed I'm speaking ironically and have nothing but good things to say about what you do. Life cereal do not change a thing.

yea you're right nox, I guess I was just worried about attaching the other wire from the 2nd battery to that post.
