New ZZ's...........

Last Thursday I bought a new ZZ, hearing that they are so much faster than the 1st ones and to chassis my Camaro & Challenger bodies. I bought the 350Z 49hz, this one made my 1st ZZ look broke. So much faster, put the Yenko Camaro body on it with the Turbo motor, now this is the way it's suppose to run. My old ZZ got used a total of 2 times before it went to the storage garage. I was so impressed with the ZZ when I first saw them, (didn't know about anything else) the wheel kits, motors, accessories, RS couldn't keep them in the stores. I bought body, wheel kits & case before I even got a car. So when I finally got mine, I was so dissapointed with it, I said I would never buy another.
The new one's changed my mind, I bought another one yesterday (X-Men) to go under my Challenger body but that's it ! No More. Well maybe the 2.8 & 3.4 motors but then that's it !!! I did try a Perfection 3.8 & the Phast motor in them this last weekend. Will post a thorough report when my Extreme & Perfection 4.2's are in.
I'm waiting for the new Tomy's to hit, I got 6 picked out for purchase.

ya dude i feel the exact same way. i read about bits and before i could find them i saw a zz ad and said well its radioshack but hey they have one and i must buy a stupid little rc car so i got a silver porsche. and well it sucked ass and i found clones a week or two later so i junked it like the hoopty it was.
then sessiz nagged me to get the new ones because he said "they were improved" and i was sceptical and he showed me a vid of one in action and i was almost convinced. then one day i broke down and got the same 49mhz 350z and muscle bodies and unmodified it kicked serious rectum. with two cells, springs and secured rear axle these things are seriously fun to drive.
i still like bits but these have come a long long way.

I'm still very biased - I like my 2 new ZZ's, but not as much as I like my bits. The one thing I'll have to say that ZZ's kick a bit's arse at hands down is the detail of the stock body. Bits try by putting on a little hood ornament or something, but that doesn't compare to the precise dots of paint and perfect clear coat of a ZZ body... but that's really the biggest thing I like about my ZZ's - that's not saying much since you can modify, paint, etc. a bit body too.

Cabo - You've gotta' throw an MSPro pcb into one of those Zips, and add an extra bat while yer at it. A stock Zip is not necessarily better than a Bit, but a Zip with a booster pcb and extra battery is like sex with a supermodel. Well, as close as a tiny RC can get to a supermodel.

you're right - I do need to do that.
I keep hearing how much people love their ZZ after the PCB swap. I'm gonna try it... before hogjowlz's JBWeld rear axle mod

i cant say the zz is better than bits. in a lot of ways it sure is but my bit race car crushes my zz in a quartermile. then again im not done with the zipzap. i like the muscle bodies and i like the zz electronics better than the tomy stuff. the zz doesnt grip very well tho. but for all around driving i think i like it better than my bits.

funny as this sounds and probably doesn't make a difference, but I don't like the steering assembly in a ZZ, I like the bit version better, probably just because it's not the "cool" clear plastic. I think that makes it look hokey, but like I said, probably no real difference in performance there.

I don't even own a ZZ, but I kindy like the clear part.. It lets you see what's goin on.. But what do I know? lol

i understand your bias against anything that radioshack puts out(besides the radioshack moog) but you gota get over your hatred for these new zipzaps. they are really nice. put another cell in it and some springs up front. i get some nice 3 wheel motion goin on in tight turns. it also flips less than a comparably fast bit.

I could see that, the longer wheel base makes it more stable.
Now that I have 2 ZZ's, I'll mod one up, I gots to.
I'm still gonna say that my bits will whip a ZZ's arse though.

it depends on what you do to alter it. they both take the same mods so its all about how much love you can put in there.

A hybrid ZZ, when properly done, is a real gem. Like Hog said, springs help a lot. I ordered a “Life-Like Master Tune-Up Kit” from Tower Hobbies, and used the springs from it. They’re perfect.
I also went to using hard KIT Racer slicks on the front wheels, and standard MS tires on the rear. The tire change increased the turning radius enough that my car seldom flips on carpet. I wouldn’t use this tire configuration for linoleum, but it’s great for low pile carpet.
I also like an 8.25:1 gear ratio. The car smoothly coasts when you let off the gas. It’s almost like having a third gear. You get an ultimate amount of speed control this way.
My preferred motor for a hybrid dual cell ZZ is the 21.5 ZZ motor. Anything faster is hard to control, and the unboosted speed is perfect for technical tracks and turns.
Pop on a Camaro body and you have a near-perfect machine.
