Rim Clone

General discussions, new info, and all stuff that's how you say, off the hook. Bit, ZZ, SE, MT, SS... as long as it's micro, it's here.

Rim Clone

Post by frizzen »

Couple weeks ago I was at an electronics store and found something I hadn't seen yet, picked it up.

"Micro Gear" mini car. it claims 6 way, 2.6 motor, LED, Sound, age 6+ (Last I checked, I'm +6 so it's all good.)

Here's the box and contents.

Let's open up the rim!

So we've got a batt holder, an ant, a car, and charge plate all contained INSIDE.

Let's pull it out of there!

A clear shell Skyline R34, noticing the stickers it's a Bensu clone.

Under the shell!

Standard swabar front end. Hmm, a flex pcb with surface mount LEDs

Rear
Image
Bensu large pinion with associated relocated idler, and again surface mount LEDs.

No report yet on how it drives, I've been busy

I like the lights, you can lower the body and probably not have to touch them.

$7.99 + tax. It's a Bit clone, but uses non-standard motor pinion and such.

Yep, you should be able to slam the body to the ground with the surface mount lights just like a ride without lights!

How about the sound? What does the sound mean. Does your little car have a little speaker producing engine sounds or does it have 50 thumping from the sub? Or does it come from the controller?

First off, 50¢ is GAY. The sound is OBVIOUSLY coming from the controller noting the speaker in the face of it...

That's a Bensu clone, with a wheel wrapped around the controller.

The chassis, besides the lights looks typical of Bensu clones, such as Cannonballs. In my experience these cars show some potential, but are generally a POS out of the box. Some FETs will give it a enough torque to turn that 10-tooth pinion, but the problem I've had with these cars are fat sloppily wound steering coils that limit the steering. Steering coils are nearly impossible to replace, so that makes the chassis junk in my opinion. If they've addressed the steering coils in these cars then they might be worth while.
...crazy man, crazy...dig it.

Nice of you to buy one and give us a report but as Dave said, in the past,
Bensu's have always been on the bottom of the bit clone list. :o

Maybe the new ones are better! Give us an update when you can.

Hmmm......If I can find one, I'll have to check it out. I am interested in the flexible light pcb. Every time I've tried to lower a bit with lights, it's always been a pain in the ass. Nice find pimp!

Alright fine, I put a set of batts in the TX.

"Sound" is at the a rather pathetic speaker in TX, when you push the little round button near speaker you have a "car starting and idling" sound (rather lame sound) for something like 8 sec. When you push either Fwd or Rev, it starts another sound clip which is "sorta engine like", starts out low goes high and restarts sound, never goes to just a constant tone, so it sounds like you're running a close-ratio infinate speed gearbox. When you release Fwd or Rev, it makes a "brake squeeling" type sound. If you were really turned on by the sound, you'll probably be disappointed.

Yes, this is a bensu clone. I established that in the first post through both stating that and looking at pics of the ugly stickers on body. Rather wimpy motor torque, but a ZZ-M motor should be able to turn that pinion ;) Steering seems a bit limited, tires seem a bit hard, 6-T idler, looks to have the standard Bit green battery (single cell).

Flex pcb with smt LEDs is nice, but be aware atleast on mine both sets of LED were red.

This is a new mold controller, not just a standard bullet they wrapped a tire around. It seems to use the standard bullet TX board in it, but the plastic case is much different. (internal car storage is very nice) There is also another PCB snuggled in there between the Ant storage and where the batteries go, surface mount components, I assume that does the Sound. The TX seems rather bulky to me, and my hands are 2 ZZ and 1 Bit from fingertip to end of palm.

The sound seems ok, eventhough it's crappy, the kids would LOVE it. Weeeeeeee ...Weeeeeeeeee.....eerrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!.
I'd like like 6 of those, Xmas is coming up and i've got dollar signs in my eyes ($_$).
