Unveil your ride in style

Post by frizzen »

Looking for a way to show off your newest ride in style? Want to OUT PIMP the pimps on a project unveiling for under $10?

Go hit a Michaels craft store, models section, "Modifiers Show & Shine". Clearance priced at $9.99. Downside is that you're stuck with a piece of crap 1/43 Honduh Civic, but you get a cool ass base so it's all good.

So, why is this worth your attention? The display has 4 LED lights, 2 mirror surfaces, and a turntable, momentary (about 8 sec) and constant switches to turn it on. Uses 2 AA.

Night shot, yes those do light!

You should make holes in the back of those fake speakers. TRhen put little head phones in the holes. Next make holes in the front do the sound comes out. Then hook up the head phones to ur mp3 or cd player and enjoy.

The new guy said: should make speakers functional by installing tiny little speakers that'll sound like crap. Because obviously there wouldn't be plenty MORE room in the "stage" below the "speakers". And you also couldn't stick the mirrored back part of it against, oh I dunno... a real speaker cabinet, a sub enclosure, or something along those lines. Don't mean to bash you man, it's a nice plan; but, there just really aren't terribly good sounding speakers below 2", and even at 2" they're still nothing to write home about.

Pic 1, was done with my digital in nightshot mode so colors were lost, it doesn't really wash it out that much in person.

Pic 2, in the mirror, there's that bastard again holding my Sony Cyber-shot 5.0. I hate that guy!!!

Pic 3, you can see the switches. black round in front of turntable is momentary. Black slider at front right is the constant on/off.

WOW that ROCK's!, really cool found!

A new "Contest Arena" in Pimp City...we needed one!

I love spaces where we can "show" our Bits, I did it with the Sunshine Autos...what is a wonderfully customized Bit without a place where to show it???

...By the way does the shop where you bought it have a web site?
(how is that called...stand?)

Michaels is a craft store where the woman folk get their fake flowers and whatnots. Their model section is very limited. If this was clearance item, highly doubtful that you'll find them online, or that I'll even be able to find one for myself in the store. At any rate, here's their website.

When I saw it, my first thought was "Ew rice." But then my second thought was how much I really needed a turntable display, and that it'd work for like nearly any model about 1/40 and smaller, figurines, carved stones, knives, almost anything...

They probably won't have a 50% off clearance thing listed. Even if you can't find it at the $9.99 + tax, it's still worth the $20 list price if you can find one. Though with as much as I'm liking this one, I just might have to see if they still have the other 2 that were still hiding in the store.

The yellow Civic has a blue stage, they also have a blue Eclipse that has a pink (red?) stage, haven't seen in person only on ebay.

The gearmotor turns base about 1 RPM, kinda loud though. LEDs kinda weak. But swapping 4 ultra-bright white leds, and making it a variable speed motor shouldn't be hard at all.

More than just the Civic, 2 styles of base

I think these lighted rotating bases that richh found at ToyEast are pretty cool. And cheap too if you're already ordering some stuff, so you don't get hit with the shipping as bad.

I don't think it would be too hard for one of us to build something up around that. Maybe do something like above with several bases turnin'.
