A-class stuff :-o

A motorized winch is very pimpin! What's your winch controlled by? Love that gear reduction, what ratio is that? How do the quad tires compare grip with the available ZZ-M ones? How's the steering torque, it looks like it'd be amazing.

What is the "Arctic Mod"?

How about some more body pics?!? Really dig the Exo-cage.

***POST THE PICS ON THIS FORUM TOO***

Winch spools in when you drive forward. It's run through a switch to turn it on or off. I like the 3 channel idea though. Could also use some gear reduction. I had it set up to spool out under power as well but it tended to tangle too much.

I GOT IT!!!!

you can have the winch motor put in parallel with the drive motor, both with switches. You will have 2 swictches mounted outside the car. to work the winch just switch off the drive motor and now your controller turns into a 3ch controller :). You can now use forward and reverse to move the winch.

Then when your friend is out of the mud, you can flip the two switches and drive away :-)

You can get 2 switches off some scrap ZZMTs.

Somehow I had a more complecated idea when I began typing...:???:

I dunno what the final reduction is.

Teeth on gears are as follows :

6t pinion off of stock steering mtr
32t outer drive gear
8t inner drive gear
32t odg
8t idg
32t odg
8t idg
42t final drive gear

If anyone knows how to calculate this I would love to figure it out.

Quad tires are waaayyy better than available zzmt tires. The all terrain style tires seemed to work the best for rockcrawling but they can't touch the quad tires added clearance and knobby grips. I used front tires off of two 1/18th scale Polaris quads at Wal-mart on the white 40 and fronts off of a Honda(??) on the blue one. They fit perfectly over the stock wheels if you slide them on till they touch the inner bead. I cut the inner bead off of another set of wheels, flipped it around slid it into the outside of the tire and glued it for beadlocks. The ties on the VW are siped (cut) and mounted on narrowed rims. I like these b/c they look more scale but the quad tires smoke them in the rocks as well.

Steering torque is very good even with lead in front wheels and way oversized tires. It could probably use a reduction gear or two as well for the gnarlier cracks I crawl with it but it's a huge improvement over stock and a fairly simple mod.
