I just get waaaay too into these little cars.

A buddy dropped by yesterday. He was interested in the cars. Asked him if he wanted to drive 'em and he got all excited. We raced for a couple hours and I should have been happy with that, but no, I started showing him all the mods I did to the cars and by the time I got to the DC Mod, I lost him, he dozed off, literally.

Welp, I guess I got carried away again. I probably wont see him for a while.

It's a cult thing Dave! You can't show 'em everything all at once! It'll scare 'em away (or bore them to drooling).

Let this be a lesson to you young man! Feed just enough to excite 'em, and then ONLY give em more when they ASK!

Yep I definately learned my lesson, but the problem is; Am I too much of a nerd to reconize when to stop next time?

I've always done the opposite, I show the mods 1st! They are so amazed by what I can do to these tiny cars, they want to know more. Then they really get into racing, then they're hooked................ 8-)

No. You just gotta find the right other nerd

I got extremely lucky with what happened with 219 dropping by and getting hooked...

Hue and I were joking about this the last time we raced at my office. It was around 7pm on a Saturday, and when we got to my office, the door was open. After my initial worry that someone had broken in, we found our bookkeeper at our conference table with her laptop, just catching up on our books.

We proceeded to unload our gear and start setting up the track. Of course, she starts asking polite, chit-chatty questions, to which we replied with probably overly-enthusiastic answers.

Afterwards, I commented on how even if we're not drinkin and smokin (yet), how akward, almost embarrassing it is when there's someone else in my office while we're racing. Ya just gotta be around like-minded people when you're getting your nerd on!

The good thing is that the older I get, the more I embrace my nerdy hobbies, and the less I give a shit what anyone else thinks. Besides, when I think about what some other guys my age do in their free time, I'm the one doing the cool shit. What's so cool about building a deck or paying $60 to play 9 holes?

Amen Brotha!

Personally I don't think the guys going to the nudie bars are so cool. Most I have met seem rather... well... desperate. :???:

To me a nerd is anybody that is so into what they're doing they don't realize how
they look to the outside world. Like trekkies for example. In their world, they probably think they're the shit, but the reality... well you know.

I guess I am nerd ...... a 285 pound scary as hell -harley riding outlaw biker-guitar player -model car builder- mini r/c tinkerer, and many of the other things I get lost in ...and not give fuck what others think about what I am doing .
:)
The lawyer on the harley thinks he's the shit ........ the hells angel thinks the guys a knob..... the model car guy sees the r/c car guy and thinks he's a dork....it is all relative and influenced by perception.
 :?

some of my mates think it's all bit of a toss, then I tell them how much revenue I bring in each month from nelly sales and they stfu pretty quick..... it's not enough to give up the day job, butit definately helps offset the hobby costs, specially on the large scale (ie: 1:28 and up, yse 1:28 is still considered large by me, lol.....)

Well I look nothing like an RC playing kinda guy; I work as a salesman and do presentations for Architects sometimes up to 150 people. So I have to wear a suit and tie to work and I sell large construction products for multi million dollar projects.

So when I am all dressed up and working it would be hard to believe I am an RC Geek most of the people I deal with would turn up there noses at RC cars as worthless little kids toys! Friggen stuck up people don’t know what there missing.

I do have a couple of friends that like the RC’s and I have gotten them interested but most of my friends have know clue as to what is involved in putting one of these cars together. Guess that’s why I am here so much even if I cant physically hang with ya guys I can share my passion and enjoy your passion for RC….
