Cars Series ZZ's have limiting resistor!

Hey pimps, got one of the cars series zipzaps.. pop it open, happy with the design.. but I noticed its acting hardly better than a 1 cell on the ground. So I popped it open again, took a closer look... what I had originally thought was a cap on the motor was a 5 Ohm resistor. Obviously, that simply rapes the power from the car. Once removed, this thing is simply awsome. Pops huge ass wheelies on the stock motor, just like any 2 cell should.

The resistor is in a similiar place to were the cap is on the ZZSE- soldered to one of the motor contact plates in the chassis. It is entirely covered by heatshrink.

Thanks beano. :-)
That's exactly what I wanted to know about them cars.

No pics beans?
I don't really want another ZZ, the bodies are too ugly :o
But to have a dual cell without the work might be worth it.

I agree , especially with it nicely mounted inside 8-)

Can anyone pick me up one of these from their nearest RS ? I will either cover all costs or have stuff to trade.

A 5 ohm resistor? I just used one of my last $10 off coupon and got one, opened it before it's second charge, and I thought it to be fast enough. (for my tiny kitchen floor anyway)

Do you know how much wasted power that would cause?
I am enterested also, in seeing if it increases run times....let us know if you have seen an increase already.

I am going to enjoy this chassis I believe. Too bad it has already been destined to be modded anyway

Edit: I forgot to mention, check out the lower profile in the front of the chassis. :???: It allows more clearance for lowering the front drastically.!

Edit: sorry forgot to load pics!

(the resistor is sitting vertically on motor side, inbetween the battery and motor)

Wow, that's almost more important than the resistor. Cool.

Partial nosejob^ This bod definatly has potential.

ibjolly, can't give you any kind of figure on the power, but lemme say its night and day.. It basically felt like going from a 1 cell with a quick motor, to a 2 cell with a stock motor(what it is).

Looks pretty sweet.
I see you slipped that diff into every photo
Plus do I see an offroad project in the background ? :???:

Especially with ground effects added :-o

I guess you didn't hear my sarcasm in my voice..
To clarify, I use resistors to drop the voltage to LED lights when I power them with too high of a voltage supply. This resistor probably does the same to the motor in this senario.

Did you meantion diff? also, notice the lipo in every photo? Offroad project? what offroad project?

Shit, I didn't hear anything :???:

1:30, i think i od'd on the zz's tonight :wobble:

Come to think of it, I didn't test at the motor tabs, but at the terminals instead. Perhaps this is why I got the 2.4v with the multi-meter, but mediocre performance. With the front tab, you can actualy shave the top of the tab to desired height, then place your new tab on top, like on the SE's.

You MUST make a video of this thing dude.

Holy shit, there *is* a limiting resistor. And here I'd been pretty much content with how much better these ZZ's were than any previous).

So I wasn't jaded...

Just jumped the resistor a half hour ago, and power seriously increased. I can no longer run this thing on my hardwood floor, or the linoleum, as it just spins out of control. But it makes for cool donuts. :-o
It runs well on concrete, but does traction roll if your not carefull. And runt time is just plain shit now too :-(
But I'm still happy

I have rechargables in the tx, I give it a good 3 charges or so and I get pretty decent runtimes. I think between 5-10 minutes, real rough estimate.

BTW, diff is a long way from figuring out- not to meantion finding/ordering some rod for the axle that is actually the right size, lol....
