My first ZZMT

hey guys,im only new here but have been following these things for the last couple of weeks

finally got myself one and done my first mod today, the rear wheel steering inspired by honda_s2000

heressome piccys of it, artic mod coming along in the next few nights and hopefully should be looking good, i need to fix the ugly shell on it, the guy who sold it to me didnt post this picture up, was ment to be a different one

anyway, heres the rear wheel steer, made heaps of differnce and no more backflips..well..not as much anyway

Nice MT, careful tho, honda also said that the rear steer is bad for crawling. So if you're gunna be doing alot of crawling, it may be in your best intrest to undo the rear steer mod. If you're gunna keep it and bash it around then the rear steer is right for you.

thanks for the reply and heads up on the tyres

im going to give it a go crawling and see how it goes with the rear steer,hopefully its ok,i have to gear it dwon before i can do anyhitng much

need to learn howto do that lol

Unless he's going in the sand or someplace similar, in which case I hear reverse chevrons work better.

just from what ive been doing latly, general stuff on my desk etc etc ive actually found the tyres to work better like this than the other way..is this normal? :\

hopeing to do my artic mod this arvo picked up some supplies today and ill let you guys know how it goes

Nice to see somebody benifitted from my mod

, the reason it's not great for crawling is because you clant "place" the front wheels , allthough if you were to make a 4ws mt (My next project) then the rws is perfect.

Nice work anyway , it's a cool mod.

I also need to gear down my MT , Im getting stuck in stuff I just shouldnt be stuck in.

A pointer to you guys , in theory , The orange motor should not be the best for crawling , as it should have LESS tourqe due to less winds , But I find you need a bit more power than the green , So I use the yellow motor to crawl with most of the time , have yet to try the red (what i'll use when i'm geared down)

well i done my artic mod, and damn doesnt it change everything! i ended up changing back to front wheel steer while it was apart and done someother touching up

the pics here are just after i finished and couldnt wait to see if it worked, so yes that solder is uncovered

the only problems im having now is not enough grunt and my battery seem to be last for only 2-3mins and then goes sluggish? imassuming thats not normal?

im looking in to doing a gear down mod and maybe add another battery pack, got aspare set sitting here form an older car i use to have

Chevrons pointed in the "right" direction will self-clean in stuff like mud, snow, and some forms of sand. This way they'll have cleaner tread to try and 'bite' into anything that'll give you some traction. If you're driving on deep soupy stuff, you'll dig in until you're sitting on the pumpkins.

Point the Chevrons the opposite way, and they'll try to load-up the treads with the loose stuff. If you're running on really soft or really deep surfaces, this loading up will keep you from 'digging to china' if you loose your momentum. You'll spin instead of dig.

Now with that said, you can open up your options even more if you get the zz-m "custom tire and wheel kit"...

heya 45tr0, this is my first bit ever soimkind of a newbie, i work up in birssy like everyday all over the place maybe one day we could meet up and chat a bit more? shoot us a PM aboutt if your interested

heres an update on the crawler, i geared it down today! added new steering motor so it actually pushes the tyres around now and the motor in the gearbox is not stock so it has a good runtime off the stock 2 batts!

ive attached 2 movies of it crawling over my laptop keyboard, it has been geared down so much that the motor will not turn without power, i cannot grab the wheels and turn it over, as you can see in the 2nd video..it hangs mid backflip

What are you using for a gearbox?

i just went thorugh my old box of junk and found my broken, old Fujifilm digital camera, used the zoom motor and box, the motor is a little bigger then the ZZ one but it runs good and has great running times

for the steering motor i got the drive motor off a cheap $15 micro rc truck i brought in the airport when i was bored, same size but a bit longer and has alot morepower to turn the wheels

can anyone recomend a better wayof setting up the steerin though? i still cant seem to get them to turn with load on them, should maybe i setup some gearing for it? how do people do it?

I think honda_S2000 was having that same problem. He was going to try one of the faster ZZ motors in the steering box to see if that would work. His gearbox came from a ZZSE servo and it's pretty slow too.

Maybe you can try to use the red or orange gears to generate more speed. Then maybe they'll be less load on the steering.

yea imight have to, ive got some other nifty pieces in here that i might be able to rig up to get the steering working, ill post up some pics of what i do anyway

putting a 3rd cell in tomorrow, not os much for the extra battery but i need more weight up the front, might even just use aweight of some kind
