My Monster Crawler...

I have been lurking around here for the past few weeks after I discovered this site seeking info on Zip/Zap MT. I picked up a coupe MT's a month ago (my first RC since I was a kid) because they reminded me of the old Stompers. Anyway, I decided to do hack one up and make a crawler like the one I watched 100 times in RedRustBucket's "Waterfallin' Crawlin'" thread.

I still need to tighten the wiring up, rig up a tri-cell and make a back cover (among other things).

Thanks to RedRustBucket for the inspiration. This thing is a f'n blast to play with.

Lol, Maxx, they are backwards because they supposedly get more traction on rocks. Or It could have been a simple mistake which works.

Yea welcome man! That's one helluva an entrance. It looks very well executed, and just looks plain awesome. :-o

Thanks. I had to have one after watching redrustbucket climb the falls. His are very clean and well crafted with the tubing, winches etc. I still need to clean up the wiring and do something else with the battery plate. I had to make the suspension arm out of 2mm balljoints and the spare parts from the servo I used for a steering motor and the gear reduction.

I put them on that way :-o It may be my imagination but it seems like the traction is better.

What the hell you talking about? The chassis is 90% visable, besides the fact the shock is attached to the body, so its not like he's gonna be able to just snap the body off like on a standard bit.

Why can't you just be nice to the new guy.

SG_Crawler, awesome work and helluva way to make an introduction, welcome. :-)

BTW, there's a few of us here that loved our Stompers as well. :-o

Hey! I don't rag on new guys :(
I gave him a nice warm welcome, just wanted to see the chassis.
You'd be surprised how revealing that last 10% is, it helps unlock the 'glue' that holds the chassis together. Placement of 'racks' and 'pins' are so much more visible in direct light, and thus more educational. :-)

Sorry if I came over as ragging on you supergroup_crawler.

The chassis is built the same as in Clint's tutorial (thanks Clint) except I used stock copper tube to make the axle and it's housing. I also used a bearing on the rear outer tube to tighten it up for zero slop. Copper isn't ideal but works fine...it was all I could find in the right diameters.

I have the body lightly tacked with glue right now so I can continue working on it... despite the light glue job it takes a beating from flips and falls. When I open it back up to finish the wiring and maybe add a winch, I will take pictures for you Maxx. :-o

I don't own any ZZ/ZZSE so I couldn't disect one of those for the gear reduction... thus the concoction on the rear end. I prefer the clean looks of RRB's stock looking rear and I imagine he didn't go through 9 kinds of hell rigging it up like I did.

Damn nice rock rig you got there! Gotta say it's pretty hard to get good clear chassis shots with the body on. Once the chassis is done, I usually get antsy to install the body and drive the darn thing!
Once again, awesome truck, and keep em coming :-o

''
I have finally finished it. Re-wired it, added gear covers and made a winch.
Here is a picture of the winch before I installed it:
