Stand Alone charger?

Hey guys, I have some questions about the stand alone chargers. I have a 7.2V 250mA. Will this work? Like safely, I heard that anything more than 4.5 will fry the battery. I tested it out and It works fine.
P.S. My ZZis one of the transformer ZZ.(I'm guessing that its already a duel cell ZZ. Right?)
