He's talking about the LAYMAN's tricell!!
http://tinyrc.com/forums/showthread.php ... eadid=6045
Hope that helps.
I did a Layman's tricell on my ZipZaps, installed a red motor and red gears, and when I peak charge it, it FLIES and goes 4 feet off a ramp before landing. Now DAT's pimpin!

Hey I'm really sorry to bring up an old thread. I'm looking to increase my run times by using this layman mod. Now the first part getting the laymans in the battery holder to make a tricell seems easy. My question is the second part about charging
I have a clone microsizer and was wondering if attaching 4 more batteries to my current charger bringing the total to six would work to charge the batteries. And connecting them in series or parallel would obviously make a difference too. So this is a question to anyone who has esperience with the laymans tricell mod or knows what would work.
Thanks Bart
Sorry to bring up an old thread but i figured it wasnt necessary to create a new one

Actually, the cells everyone was using for this mod are lower capacity than the stock battery... the mod is to increase voltage... in other words, three 40 mAh cells will give you the same run time as one 40 mAh cell, but the voltage will be 3.6 instead of 1.2...Bart wrote:I'm looking to increase my run times by using this layman mod.
'lectrical guru pimps correct this if it's wrong...

bird's right.
it's all in how you wire them, there's 2 ways.
In series means you wire (or place) the cells end to end. this gives more voltage but same capacity.
so in the case of 3 x 1.2v, 40 mah cells the result will be 3.6v, 40 mah.
In parallel means you wire all the positive ends together and all the negative ends together. this gives you more capacity, same voltage.
so in the case of 3 x 1.2v, 40 mah cells the result will be 1.2v, 120 mah.

um so what exactly does that mean betty... faster car but same run time?:-?In series means you wire (or place) the cells end to end. this gives more voltage but same capacity.

and what does this mean.. it's not longer run time is it?In parallel means you wire all the positive ends together and all the negative ends together. this gives you more capacity, same voltage.
so in the case of 3 x 1.2v, 40 mah cells the result will be 1.2v, 120 mah.

If not what do people do to get longer run times. Oh boy I'm sorry to bother you

I'd also like to point out, if you charge the same amount of time, you'll get the same runtime. When you have more mah, or IOW capacity, you have to put more juice in to fill it to capacity.
I said this many times before, but I'll say it as many times as I have to. The stock batteries take far more than the charger is giving them. Just charging the car 3x on the stock controller will get you 10+ minute runtimes, which should be adequate for most people.
Also voltage pushes current. So more voltage means shorter runtimes.

.... Are yea fuckin serious. Man I'm a total dumbass. I never thought the battery would take any more juice. Looks like I'm gonna have to try this when I get my wires resoldered.Just charging the car 3x on the stock controller will get you 10+ minute runtimes, which should be adequate for most people.
