switch or potenteometer

Mostly dealing with electronics and pcbs and modifying them, all the things that make electrical-engineers tick and the rest of us cringe in fear.

is this a switch or potenteometer? it looks kinda like a potenteometer but after looking at it it may be a switch. i found it in a box of electronic stuff.
i just used my webcam instead of my digicam bc i am lazy. lol.

Switches and pots serve similar purposes, but a switch just turn things off and on, and a pot can do it to varying degrees. (Just to oversimplify things)

So I believe that is some kind of pot, though from what little I can see from the pictures, it looks like it just may have 4 positions, so the question is; is it gonna work for whatever you need to do?

thanks for the help. i looked on the RS website and found this

it looks like the same thing i have. it says it is a horazontal style trimmer. so that is the same thing as a POT right?

yes, that is a potentiometer (pot). more precisely it's a variable resistor.
i used to be cool
