RS Electolytic cap polarity

Post by pimpsmurf »

These caps don't really tell me which way they are polarized. Never used caps with 1 marking. it looks like it is saying that the holes go one a certain direction, but I don't want a pop today.

Anyone have a clue which way they go?

*EDIT* nothing blew up when I put the negative terminal on the side with the strip. I'm hoping nothing ever blows up. I've read that sometimes they won't pop until something actually draws the capacity. *shrug*

you figured correct. the "strip" or "arrows" point to negative.

anytime you see a marking highlighting one terminal, it's negative. (with capacitors that is)
some caps like ceramic ones don't have a polarity.
i used to be cool

Yes, however I was thinking that the O with the arrow-looking line indicated that holes flowed that direction. lol. *shrug*

Thanks for the valued info! You never cease to be helpfull. I was scared it might pop once I get everything hooked up. :-D
