New Zipzaps with motorized steering are crippled!

Today I took apart my Mater Zipzap chassis to try to find a way to swap in a clone board to get more power the the motor. In the process of taking the board out, I saw something covered in heat shrink in between the orange motor connection. I cut the wire out and removed the heat shrink, and low and behold, it was a 4.7 ohm resistor to limit the current that goes to the motor. I was wondering why a purple motor didn't perform any difference...The resistor just screwed all the power of the dual cell up :o I'm taking mine out and seeing if it makes the performance any better before I try the bit pcb...What was radio shack thinking?

My guess is they were thinking the modders needed an easy way to make them rather fast, without sending them out as "uncontrollably fast" for the kids that would end up with them.

Either way, once you remove that resistor, it really helps the car! I wouldn't worry about a board swap yet. Though if you do carry out your board swap, you need a board with MOTOR steering, **not** MAGNET steering.
