Scalloped RX7 ZZ (also I fixed my alloys)

Well that hacking the body to work with the rim business wasn't flying with me, so I decided to go ahead and narrow the front alloys. I just rubbed them in circles on 400 grit sand paper. I knew aluminum is soft, and would sand easy, but it went so well that I went ahead and took it down to the next bevel. I narrowed them by about 2mm. I then shaved my steering knuckles, chassis, bulkhead, and steering arm, to move the wheel in another mm, for a total of 3mm on each side. The front wheels are now tucked in the body. I lowered the front tab on the chassis, and all my bodies still work with very little, if any trimming.

Now the rear wheels seem too wide in comparison, and gives it a muscle car look. Looks cool with my muscle cars...


...but looks silly on the Skyline, and Lancer. I thought about doing the back ones too, but my fingers were sore from pressing on the rim, and I dug it with the muscle car bodies.

Then I discovered the RX7 body was wide enough in the back to keep them meats contained.


So I tried to redo the scallops I did on the 911 on it. they came out a little crooked, but I think the overall paint job came out better.



Took a little work, but now I'm 100% satified with my alloys.

Yeah, I like the deep dish look, but I hated the hacked wheel well look.

BTW, this is a parts car, that I built from a ZZ chassis Havok gave me, and Thunder Charger guts. It's now a dual cell beast.

I'm not sure how to judge speed anymore...it's as fast as a dual cell should be, but it's just not the same after playing with the mosfets, it just doesn't punch like a mosfet modded car. Mosfets are next for this car. The rear tires are are already starting to have traction problems when it gets the slightest bit dusty. I'll definately have to find some stickier pen grips if I do the mosfets... but compared to a stock ZZ, it's a beast.

As far as handling goes, it turns on a dime, that's why I went through all the effort to fix the front end.

I agree... Once you get them dialed in, there ain't nuttin better.. Outstanding job dude... I love those wheels..

I was gonna do the same with the front, but was too nervous. I figured that it would come out lop sided..

im still working on my alloys. they are tricky. i almost got the wobble out. im gona put em on my zipzap and use the javelon shell i think.

Nope, no wobble what-so-ever. Those pen tips I used for bushings were a tad snug, so I put some grease on them and spun them on my dremel. Now it's a precision machine. Way more precise feeling than metal against plastic.

They were coming out a little lopsided, that's part of the reason I took it down to the bevel, to give me a guide line.
