Nissan Gloria

This is sorta a "mod in progress". The chassis is stock with a l.0. It's a crusin' car so I quite like the speed being slow enough to be able to actually look at the car!. The shell has had 2 coats of "Holden Gunmetal" auto touch-up paint, followed by several coats of clear. All the lights/windows were masked, I'm gonna put some electrics in it soon so I wanted them clear. The grill is nice so I though hey! Might as well leave it in there.

This is what I'd consider my first proper paint & mask job...

Pugeot 305(?)

I *think* that's the name of the shell. It's from a Bensu clone. The widows were black to start with, so I continued that. The masking on the headlights, rearlights and other places wasn't the best, sorta learning with this car :fool:. The chassis is TOMY, the wheels are pullbacks and the antenna is internal.....

These are some pics for the ausmicro.com comp, I thought you pimps wouldn't mind a squizz.

lol drivewrx, do you really want it? :greenblob:

What do you fellas use for masking small, od shaped objects? I've found that "bluetak" which is the grey glob of hand putty that's in a lot of my workbench pics works well. You yanks prolly have something equivalent.. I used it to mask the headlights, grill & rear lights on the gloria, I gotta say that it works rather well. After you have painted an area and it has dried you can pick out the putty with tweezers or something similar and then use that excess putty to remove all the residue from the sides of where the mask ends.

I love that Peugeot. I have a one from a cannonball, but your looks a lot nicer.

What kind of car did that come from?

I use tape to mask as much as I can including headlights, but really small details I paint afterwards. Noxorc had an idea with using Elmer's white glue that I've been meaning to try, but I'm set in my ways.
...crazy man, crazy...dig it.

There's this liquid mask stuff you can get to paint on small details, but it's kind of a transluscent blue and dries clear, so it's hard to see what you've maksed. I tried the Elmer's glue and it worked well, easier to see where you've applied it. I'd recommend a couple coats of Elmer's, so it's thick enough to pick it off with the tip of an X-acto.

what ive found: if you can use masking tape use masking tape. it comes off much cleaner than the latex stuff.

Just kidding. But if you do want to part with it, give me a holler! I'd gladly take it off your hands!

Mostly I use masking tape. I've used Elmer's glue for the really tiny details. Worked OK. I think I needed to make the mask thicker. But, like Hog says " if you can use masking tape use masking tape."

She's been a while I know. But I did say I would be adding lights to the Gloria. I haven't actually glued them in yet, but here's a preview:

Image

I know the image is crap, I currently don't have a digicam. It will have white headlights, blue foglights and red tailights.

Of course I use my custom DCDC convertor light PCB which allows me to run all these lights off the car's own battery. I also did a current measurement and found it to be only draining 30mA! Not too shabby.

Image

I'll try and get my bro's cam before the weekend is out and get some better pics. Damn she's gonna be a slamin' ride once it's finished!
