My first attempt at body work

[HACHI-RYOKU]

Here's an ugly clone I picked up to practice body work. I tab lowered this as well as put the body kit together. I also fixed up the rear foil. I thought the original looked butt-ugly. I used duplicolor metalcast red on top of tamiya metalic black with gunze sanyo clear coat. I also used testers brush paint with a really, really small paint brush for the detailing. The wheels are Tester's flouresent orange. My wife picked out that color to go with the dark red.

The putty is Tamiya epoxy putty. It's the first putty I've ever used, so I can't really compare it to anything. It's just like epoxy. Just add the two elements together. It takes about 24 hours to fully dry, but it seems very strong. Not brittle either. Easy to cut and sand down after words.

The inside has fets and the ZZSE batts (2.4v/70mah). I also threw in an on-off switch because the batts are NIMH. They are better stored with a charge, where NICADS are better stored without a charge. The antenna is a piece of brown CAT5.







The color comes out more brown than red in some of the pics. Off camera, it has a more dark blood red color to it.

I know it's by far not the best. This is my first attempt at this degree of body work. Critisize me if you want. I want to know your honest opinion.

Never evereverevereverevereverevereverevereverevereverevereverevereverever ever ever let your wife pick the color of your wheels again.... No, I'm kidding... Just kidding Mrs. Eight-Six! It definately sets it off in a unique way. I bet it would look downright sinister on black wheels, though...

That is a cool looking shell... nice bodywork, and really cool paint. I have an iwaver Mitsu evo shell in the works for my xmod that I'm planning on using the red metalcast on, but with a lighter base...

looks like maybe a little more sanding to smooth things out woulda helped.

That's looking pretty good. An interesting body for a clone, too. I don't know what your process is, but if you shoot a coat of primer over your bodywork, it makes it easier to see where the imperfections are so you can sand them out. The thing I've found with body kits is its very easy to go overboard and seem cartoonish. Think scale.

Thanx. I did have a hard time trying to see if the body work was smooth. It seemed smooth until I put the paint on. I'll definately try the primer idea.

Awsome job there bro. Especially for a 1st timer. Also, even tho you mentioned the problem w/ tint in the pics, these are damn sharp and really show off all that you did. My critisism would be about the rear tail lights, another styling or at leaste color would be nice, I mean who has yellow tail lights ya know? Finally, what clone was it, looks like a bastard child from the Porche family.

Yes, it was a nasty porsche. I can't remember which clone it was. I picked it up before I left Japan.
