That was this car (the photoshopped rendering I used to test paint schemes)... that was my bullshit entry into a bullshit contest. I made the decals for this car... they're not perfect, but I'm happy with the way the Testors inkjet decals went on. Also, the whole side is one big decal (clear decal over white paint). It looks real smooth without all the individual decal edges.arfin wrote:Lookin' very nice and clean hue, where did you get those decals? I seen a car that looked very much like this one in the Rcmod contest (same decals) but that picture isn't there anymore

You could paint around them, and clear coat over them.payaso wrote:

Hey I just thought, make some flame decals, and then lay a candy color over them. That might be kinda groovey.

Anyways, I'm way off track now... Nice to see you off your ass Hue. First the vid, now this, I'd have to say you've been motivated with the little cars lately.
It's gonna be cool to see this one finally done. (Fer reals this time.

I still gotta paint the top gold, though... which I wish I woulda done before the decals went on. I got a plan, but I'll probably fuck it up.Finks wrote:What I am saying is that he is modding again bro, the paint has already been layed.payaso wrote:Finks wrote:Awww yeah, will be great to see some fine ass paint layed by you again Hue. Yeah, you know, I made that comment about painting around the decals, because I thought it was still gonna be gold on top, but now that I think about it that is gonna be tricky to do, huh?
Seems to me like you'd have to go ahead and give the decals a light coat of clear to protect them from the tape.

The problem with masking over the top of decals even with a clearcoat is that it's only as srong as the bond between the decal and the body. I found out the hard way. Fortunately it was hue's car, not mine.crazydave wrote:Yeah, you know, I made that comment about painting around the decals, because I thought it was still gonna be gold on top, but now that I think about it that is gonna be tricky to do, huh?

Well shit, I did it... the stoopid way. No clear coat, no nothin'.
I just decided fuck it, I can make another set of decals if this
goes bad... I didn't want to clear coat the decals, then have it
go sideways... then I'd really be fucked. So, I just cut a very
thin strip of tape and masked off the top... right on the decal,
but the tape (Tamiya) was only about 1/16 of an inch wide,
which also made it easy to bend around the curves. Then, I
used lo-tack blue tape that I stuck to my pants to pick up
some lint, making it ultra lo-tack. I got that into place and
actually taped the blue tape to the Tamiya tape with the
leftover thin strips... and it worked! There's a tiny bit of bleed
on the rear spoiler, but that'll be an easy fix. Nothin' went
wrong around the decals, thank 'ol what's his name... Regis?
Enough talk already, here's the photo...
