Fresh Fish with a request: Caterham 7 bit body. How's that?

Can this be done? Cast a body mold out of plaster and mold a plastic Caterham Superlight (Lotus 7 Replica) Go to the site at the bottom and see it. I'd be willing to pay for a durable plastic (ABS works well) unpainted bit body. It's my dream car. The Superlight R500 in real life in top trim for $30K (not sure what euros convert to in dollars for sure) goes from 0-60 in 3.4 seconds and weighs in at 460 kg.

There's a lot about that car that would make it incredibly difficult to pull off really well. Mostly, the fact that a bit chassis has most of its bulk in the middle (because of the pcb), and that car is basically open wheeled with a narrow middle section. I'm not saying it's impossible, but you'd have to make some major tradeoffs in regards to the original design.

You could widen the stance and lengthen a Bit chassis... the PCB is a fixed width, so you'd need to start with that as the body width and bring the wheels out from there and lengthen it to scale... the scale would be a little larger than a Bit, but that's probably the best way to do it. Plus, the wheels whould look more scale on a slightly larger car.

As far as building the body, it's a simple enough design, you could probably scratch-build it outta plastic, with some patience. If it's your dream car, there's nobody gonna put more care into it than you. I say go for it.

So, you're in Salem, eh? Why can't people keep their cars on the road down there, the past coupla weeks?... lol. Not funny, actually... that sucked about the little kid waiting for the bus, but the car running into the house was pretty funny. Anyway, SuperFly and I are up in PDX... welcome to the 'hood, nice to have another Oregonian 'round here.

you a midnight runner too? Damn.

Not one of Dexy's midnight runners, I just mean someone that stays up real late.

Yep, I expected major tradeoffs with the PCB, but I think I found a way around it, leaving the side of the chassis black and then planting the muffler at the bottom, and by having the front totally open wheeled and open top. The seats (From an old hot wheels car) would be really close to the back, and an actual Bit spare tire and wheel, fully assembled would sit in the back. No car to date looks 100% perfect in Bit Char-G form, and I don't mind the unsightly PCB enclosure. I'm sure the thing would look great. How can I get this scratch plastic and form it around a bit chassis, because it seems that's all that holds me back right now.

You live in Portland? Damn, nice to know, I wonder if you know any of my Salem G's (From North Salem High School). I know all about that kid that got killed. I read it in the Statesman Journal. That was messed up. I'm getting my opinion in that paper concerning the whole Brandon Mayfield thing soon, so if ya read it, you'll either like it or hate me for it, but I had to voice my concern for that guy. People really don't know how to drive, and that appplies to Washington as well. Say 'sup to Superfly for me, keep it real on the northwestside...

Props for that kickass gallery. Those cars are fly; I haven't gotten into the whole custom paint thing- yet. I gotta know where you got that Shelby Cobra 289 Daytona Coupe body. That one I've never seen before.
BTW, what's your take on the Perfection Phantom Racing Series cars?

Sounds like you got it figured. Using the chassis as the bottom of the body sounds like the right thing to do, it'll be sweet.

Most hobby stores have a decent selection of a plastic called Styrene. It comes in sheets, bar stock, rods, I-beams, tubes... all kinds of thicknesses. That stuff sands and carves really easy... it's super soft. Superglue, styrene, an xacto knife, some small files and sandpaper should be all ya need to scratch build that thing.

Shelby Cobra 289 Daytona Coupe? Ain't got one... are you lookin' at the '64 Corvette Gran Sport? That's a reissue ThunderJet slotcar body mounted on a chassis from these shitty NOS Bottle FnF cars you used to be able to get at Wal Mart.

I only have one of the newer Perfection cars (one of the VW busses), and mine came busted (steering coil wasn't glued in place.. easy fix). Tested it out briefly and only turned in one direction, but it seemed great. Probably the quickest stock car I've had. Better than my 2-speed Tomy cars.

Never had or seen one up close but if it's a pcb thing, there's always the swap. If it's a steering thing there's always the swap. (unless ofcourse it's digiq/tank steering they use in which case ya they would be suck) :???: I gotta get me one of them f1's.

What size is that F1, 1/64th or 1/43 or what? just wondering, I'm not into F1's but that one is cool.

I probably should get one of those little f1's... I can get 'em for dirt cheap at ToyEast, but can I change the motor and such? That f1 baby looks really good for the mod, but hmmm.... Yeah, that's a really good idea. My take on a regular bit is to not have any side paneling and no front wheelwells. Just a front fascia, the long hood stretching over the PCB, the muffler going down one side, the hotwheels seats with open top, and the spare in back. I just get mad at that idea and how I haven't tried it yet. First things first, I gotta get a soldering iron and fix my controller. Then I can move onto this little project.

Sorry, Hue. My bad. I noticed last night. It's a Vette, but damn it looked like a Cobra at first. That thing is pretty damn cool nonetheless. That and your Porsche car and also props to DarkTari, I'd pay for a 360 f1 spyder that looks like that. Also props to anyone that can polish turds. You dig?

Also, in your opinion (everybody) what looks better, a stock RX-7 body from Bit Char-G(most brands) or from ZipZaps?

I hate the way the ZipZaps look in general, except for their musclecar bodies, those kick ass.

sessiz, you live in upstate NY? Props. I wonder if you've ever heard of Grado Labs in Brooklyn. I wanna go there if I can ever visit the east coast. And you got great galleries too btw.
