Yea This is my FD from the Auto Modelista kit and a friend of mine showed me this site and a couple others and lets just say I jumped right in hehe anywho heres a pic for the first part I cut off the roof and the side windows with a fine toothed saw.. thats why it's still lookin rough I couldn't find any sandpaper and the hardware store is closed atm... anywho the paint needs some sanding and coating and maybe a light buff to give it it's true chromyness.

First tip is to enter that into the contest!! That a sweet little ride dude.

If you need some sandpaper, swing past an autoparts store, they carry from rough to fine. Everyone around here has their own little techniques, so find out what works best for you. Go jump into the other sections and check out the many ideas you'll find in them.

Well I had some really really fine sandpaper around here from my dreamcast project but it seems to have disapeared... Oh well tomorrow I'ma head over to the store and get some sandpaper and maybe something to put on for a shiny coat hehe and then maybe swing by the hobby shop and pickup some paints for some sweet decaling...

Nice chop job! Looks clean already, and you haven't even finished it up yet. That's pretty good.

You should enter it in the contest, but honestly, if I was you I'd put a little more into it, some interior details, maybe a wheel mod. I mean it is a competition, you wanna represent. That's always been my theory anyways.


Look in the auto parts store for sand paper. That where you find the really fine grit wet/dry stuff. Since your just doing some finishing sanding, you want at least 800 grit, I would probably reccomend that you go no lower than 1000 grit. Use an exacto blade to clean the insides of the windows.

allright thanks I'll keep that in mind... but just a question on the wheel mod I cant seem to get the damn things off the axles and being my only chassis atm(cus I am poor and it's gunna be about a month before I can afford serious modding) how do you get em off?

if I may, another suggestion - fill in the holes left behind after loosing the rear wing/fin. use some putty or somethin and sand that baby down, make them holes disappear.

as for sand paper, go into your mom's/sisters bathroom an steal some of their emery boards and nail files.

I use Chrome Autobody paint... you gotta apply a clearcoat on that stuff tho to make it real chromy and just chrome marks up real easy I've left fingerprints just from touching the stuff days after it's dried...

Vary sweet job I like the Chrome to it is more Chrome than I have seen out of Auto Body paint most of the time it just comes out silver!

yea autobody chrom does come out a silver color when it dries it becomes kinda shiny but needs a good buffing to get it lookin real chrome.... I won't be able to buff something this small unfortunately

I never even thought about rubbing out chrome paint, and that makes sense too. You gotta have a smooth surface if you want it to reflect.

Well unfortunatly this afternoon after my last coat of chrome was finished drying I whent out and gave er a clear coat.... I didn't notice then but when I whent back out tonight to inspect the sexyness I came across a ruined no so sexy paintjob... it seems that the clear coat was someone corosive and mixed with the chrome to give me thie ugly whitish grey color.... oh well I guess time to sand and try again... I think I will wait a few days before a clear coat and actually let the paint harden....

That's a good idea. In fact while paint may seem dry in a day, it takes weeks to cure. Give it little longer maybe, and lay your first few coats of clear really light. Then lay you last coats heavier. That will help protect any color underneath.

lol yea... and as much as I'd love to get some alloy's on this bad boy... by the sounds of it you have to order them bulk from europe and I really don't want a whole bunch of alloy rims for one chassis...
