Sportin' a Hummer

This is one of them Desert Tornado cars. I haven't even driven it yet, I just thought the body might look better with a little fixing up, but I guess I got a little carried away.

So I took the turret off, shaved, filled in and smoothed the roof. I had sanded it very thin to get it flat, and the plastic warped when the paint hit it, so I cut a thin piece of plastic packaging and glued the to the top of the roof and smoothed it. I choppedout the back half the cab to make it a half cab. Filled in the back of the cab with a piece of plastic, and covered the bed with a piece of thin bnrushed aluminum from a floppy disk (thnak for that tip Betty :-) )

Somewhere along this line, I started another baja Beetle body, but decided to have some fun with the Hummer body first. So I painted it in an off white. Masked my first line, sprayed the gold, masked the second line, and sprayed the blue.

I thought this was one of my best race paint schemes, I think the trick was the K.I.S.S. philosophy. So I went with the race scheme by fabricating bumpers and a roll bar from plastic coated paper clips, and scrounging together the remnants of this Tomy decal set. Made some number plates, clear coated, and I think even though I started with kind of a silly body it came together as a cool looking little racer.

I swear, I had that same idea today.

I think I'm going to do mine up to look as much like a H2 SUT as possible. Glad to see it can be done. I thought it could. Now only if my skills are enough. :?

Later,

If you got something like a razor saw, it's a really easy chop.

Here's what I started with.

Just gonna stick some FETs in there, these cars wake up with FETs. I'm gonna see if a spare MotorWorks motor I have happens to be faster. Other than that, nah, no plans.

When I look at certain cars I get pictures in my head. When that happens, I have to make it a reality, I don't how, I figure that out later, but I just start doing it, and I can't do anything else until I'm done.

It started as the artic camo'ed one. If you notice both my other offroad bits have a blue and white theme, so my inspiration may have just been as simple as that. I'm not actually shure what triggers it.

plastic coated paperclips. goddamn it! why didn't i think of that! so that makes us even for the aluminium tip :-)

i love the body and bumper shit. my only critisism is the wheels. i feel it needs to have same size wheels all 'round. and the rear ones are too big with that wheelbase. so i suggest using the front wheels all 'round and maybe widen the wheelbase by about 1 - 2mm.

that's just me, if it works well as is why screw with it! kickass ride man

All I can say is sweet - and you've given me ideas for those bodies

Thanks guys. :-)

Yeah, Betty, I agree about the wheels, but since the tires are kinda hard, I don't really think they're worth the effort. Besides since the body is shrunk to bit proportions, I think it kinda works, because bits just have little wheels in the front.

Nice work, Dave. Kinda reminds me of a sprint car from the Robocop future. I can imagine that in a big sideways drift with ripped pieces of sheet metal flapping all over the place.

Exactly, and in slow motion... suspension all pumpin' like a motherfucker.

Nice truck, cd... I'd love to see a shot of the new hummer along side these beauties...
