This Super Slick Skyline is, umm...super slick.

Sorry, all out of clever titles today. Sooo ummm, well anyways. :roll:

Aquired this body from Bird. Loved the color, so I decided to work with it.

I lowered the body by first measuring, then marking that measurement at all point where the body meets the chassis. Then I shave out the sides front and back. On the sides I needed to hold the body in place, so I glued bits of plastic where the slot was. You can see my handy work here.

I shaved out the wheel wells, so it's nice and low with zero rubbing.

I didn't want to bore you guys and be all, "Look at my lowered Super Slick". So I threw in a flame job. Added a few details, and changed up the wheels.

The wing is not painted that way by choice. When I took the masking tape off, it pulled chunks of paint off the wing. Damn they lay that paint on thick. Had to sand the crap out of it, and it's still not totally smooth.

wow, love the flames. if you don't mine me asking, how did you mask it? lines look to crisp to be plain ole masking tape.

I'm using some thick ass 3M stuff, it's even thicker that the roll of 3M I was using. I really got get some better tape. Then I'd be dangerous. 8-)

As long as you rub it down really good, using your fingernail and/or a toothpick to get it ito crevices and lay several thin coats, your gonna get a clean masking, the problem with the thicker tape is it's harder to cut curves, the knive wants to pull you in a straight line.

Here's the flames I sketched out, to give you an idea of some of the flow that was lost in the interpretation, if compare to the pics above.

The other problem is build up around the edge. Usually I lightly sand it down, and clear coat to deal with that, but on this car, I was unsure how my clear coat would react to the Super Slick finish, and didn't wanty to risk it on this body, so I'll give it 48 hours before going over with rubbing compound, and that will blend it in.


Oh plus I did this opposite of the way I did it in the tutorial, and it's really hard to get the outside part of the mask back on the car. This was the second set of flames I cut for this car, because I screwed the first ones up trying to get them on the car

That's pretty badass CD! I think you just convinced me to try these things out. Have you started messing around with the electronics yet?

Yeah, FETs are not a direct swap, I need to figure out why they wont work.

In the meantime the stock motor is plenty torquey and fast to be more than enough fun, I just wanted to get FETs in it to see if it could pull that purple motor and gears better.

Shit, I better check that out, my car has never been near the top ten, last time it was in the top ten, someone had stolen my pic. :lol:
