Old-School Custom Drag Truck
Well, here's one I've been working on for quite awhile, off and on...
my usual work style these days, which I gotta quit, 'cuz it makes each
step harder when there are several weeks or months in between.
Anyhow, this started out as one of those Hotwheels Monster Jam
pullbacks for the body, and a Thunder Charger for the chassis.
Gold paint is a fuckin' two-bit bitch to work with! I mixed up a custom
metallic brown for this one... I have an old bakelite radio that served
as my color inspiration... it's that classic bakelite color with gold trim.
I love that combo, and thought it'd work well here.
The other thing about this one is that I wanted it to really look like
the toy it is, as opposed to a scaled down model of a real car...
keeping the lines real simple, details clean and minimal, using the
chassis as part of the body, and leaving the motor exposed all kinda
added up to what I was going for... clean, simple, unique, and clearly
a Bit. Anyway, it's probably the most unique car I've built, and I really
dig it... I haven't put the electronics in it yet, but I'll show pictures of
that later (complete with close-ups of the melted chassis from soldering
disasters that are sure to come)... I wanted to floss it now, before I
fuck it up.
what it started as...

work in progress...

Finished truck...

That's cool as shit man.
Excellent body work and matching the chassis to the body.
I'm gonna guess this baby's for show only, that'd suck to ruin it.
You also managed to pull something off nobody has done yet.
That's incredible.

Dear Life Cereal, Where do you get off? Part of a balanced breakfast and delicious? Who do you think you are? By now you may have guessed I'm speaking ironically and have nothing but good things to say about what you do. Life cereal do not change a thing.

Thanks guys, I've been anxious to wrap this one up... it's such an odd one, I wasn't sure how it would be received, or even if it'd turn out how I planned.
Yeah, I like it at that stage... it looked real cool in grey primer, too. I was tempted to "leave it alone" at various stages... wish I'd have photographed all of 'em.sg219 wrote:I'm diggin' the black and white look.
Thanks man... that's exactly where I was coming from, though I couldn't say it that concise. Perfect.crazydave wrote:Kind of like a the Bit Racer from the '40s that never happened.

Someone at my level just bows to something like that.
It's great, I can't say enough.

Thanks, bruthas... I've had 3 rides goin' for the longest time... months. 2 of the 3 are just plain fucked, but I'm glad it was this one that made it through... now I'm gonna take it out and make one of those crazydave-like off road vids with it!

Nah, I think I'll seal it away in an air-tight garage instead.
