Duh dah dun... Its Captain Chaos.
OK, silly title, but it makes reference to where my love for the Countach began. Easily one of my top 3 favorite cars.
This body had started to crack right up the middle. Not sure why, but I think when I shoved the tab above the slot to lower the rear, the body was pressing against the PCB cover. So anyways, I ended up retiring it a couple months ago.
Then the other night, I was going through my body box, and I had to revive this one. It is one of my all favorites after all.
I tab lowered the chassis front and rear. I had to sand the sway bar and its pivot point just to get the front end where it is. Any more and the windshield would be holding the sway bar in. You can see it pressing against the window in the pictures.
I debated losing the wing, but then I realized the wing was part of the attraction of the Countach to me when I was kid. So I decided to keep it, but it had to be toned down somehow. I ended up lowering it nearly an 1/8th inch. It now sits level with the roof line, and I think it looks much better.
After glueing strips of plastic inside the body to hold the cracks, I sanded the excess glue off the outside, and painted it dark blue. I always wanted a black Countach, but I suppose this will work.
I know I black out the centers of the wheels alot, but this time I figured I could get away with it, because it looks like the wheels on the trading card that came with it.

That's slick as snot and lookin hot.
Makes me think of one that would actually exist (as colors go).
And yea, that's low - as it should be. Excellent job.

Dear Life Cereal, Where do you get off? Part of a balanced breakfast and delicious? Who do you think you are? By now you may have guessed I'm speaking ironically and have nothing but good things to say about what you do. Life cereal do not change a thing.

I would have figured that you'd like it. You like the sports cars.SuperFly wrote:Wow, that's beautifu! That's amazing you got it that low, I didn't think it was possible to get the Countach low enough to look good. That's like your best car ever, imo.
I wonder how it would look if you painted the sway bar top and the pcb cover black?

I actually have every intention to paint the sway bar black, but I left it on purpose for the pictures, so you guys can see how its pressed right up in the window.
The PCB cover is gone. I've been using Scotch tape to hold my PCB boards down. I think it looks clean, and it doesn't leave the gooies that electrician's tape does, but I may just have to dig the ol' black tape out again.

Thanks for the clever compliment there Cabo.

A little trick I do is to cut a little square of thin plastic and put it over the pcb and use electricians tape. You could make it even thinner by taping scotch tape to the sticky side of the black tape where the pcb is.crazydave wrote:The PCB cover is gone. Sweet work.

Well there's a couple things going on. The major thing though is that I was suffering from the worst, most god awful back aches for the whole first half of the year, and spent a lot of time laying in bed day dreaming of things I wanted to do. I tried to knock out a few things, but I just kept screwing 'em up.
Now I'm finally feeling better, and I'm all backed up on projects, and a big reason for that is I bought a pile of the those MS Speed Sets from Tower a few months ago, and I'm finally making use of those chassis. Actually this was my last one. I'm hoping they still have more.
Sucks, because I just want to drive my cars, and I'm getting kinda sick of modding. Yesterday I just wanted to get this and Blackie out, and then I've actually dedicated the first half of today to just driving bits, and playing guitar. Then I'm gonna take a little nap, and build a turbo for my Epoch, that I've been trying to get to for my last 2 weekends.

Glad you are feeling better the Lambo looks sweet I like when modders go aginst the grain and use non standard colors to paint there RC's the metallic Blue is sweet! Did you remove the chrome from the wheels before adding the black or just add it? Also how did you get it lowered so much without the back wheels rubbing?
Vary nice Work man!

I just use whatever I have around, this can is running low, so I'll be flossing some new colors soon.steelwoolghandi wrote:Glad you are feeling better the Lambo looks sweet I like when modders go aginst the grain and use non standard colors to paint there RC's the metallic Blue is sweet!

Nah, just painted over them. The edges you'd probably want to sand first, because they rub on stuff, but I never had any problems with the centers, because the rarely if ever make contact with anything.Did you remove the chrome from the wheels before adding the black or just add it?
I mentioned this before, but I think it was years ago. I just soak a napkin with mineral spirits. Blob the paint all in the spokes. Then wipe the edges with the paper towel. If your careful the paint will come right off the edges and center, and stay on the spokes.
This body is extra wide. I didn't even have to shave the inside of the wheel wells like I usually do, so really, I did nothing. The front end is the tricky one to get low. Also how did you get it lowered so much without the back wheels rubbing?

That's one beautiful Lambo. It's one of my favorite cars too. What kind of paint did you use? I've wanted to paint one of those for a while but I was dreading trying to work around the side window details. The detailing you did is good as hell. How did you do that?
Cause I ride around town on my low-rider bicycle.

Thanks, but uh... honestly, I'm not quite sure what detailing you're referring to, because I did very little.HACHI-RYOKU wrote:That's one beautiful Lambo. It's one of my favorite cars too. So I'm gonna assume your talking about the rear end. That I just masked off the whole rear area so I could keep the original logos. The only other detailing I did was some black on the various vents, and silver on the lights on the front bumper, and the tailpipes.
For paint I used my usual automotive laquers, Duplicolor color coat, and one quick coat of Plasti-Cote's "Classic Laquer" gives it a great gloss. For details I use Testors, and a fine tipped detail brush .
Edit: just re-read your post and realized you mentioned the side window details right before that. I get it now.

That I just did my usual window method. Rubbed the tape into the crevice with my finger nail, then cut it out with the ol' exacto. I make another light cut again before I peel the tape off, and that gives the paint a breaking point, and keeps the edges nice and crisp.
