Aston Martin DB5 (WIP - Updated)

Post by crazydave »

Just got it. Haven't nothing yet, I just got the wheels on... but, the damn hub caps are supposed to be like spokes, but the whole thing is silver. It just irked me. Just spent the last 2 1/2 hours painting the in betweens black. I'm probably not even gonna keep them, but I got to show it, 'cause it took me some time, and patience.

Anyways, I call it a WIP thread cause I'm gonna lower it, and find some decent wheels, FET mod it, you know just the standard stuff I do to every car I like, but not much else. Who knows, maybe we'll get the ol' alloys back out. I'm thinking if I paint the gold spokes silver they should fit the theme about right, might have to narrow the rears. We'll see, stay tuned.

Yup, that is a cool shell.
Glad ya painted the rims to accent the spokes.
That's bogus it didn't already come red-ta-go.

To me ZZ's are ugly. But radioshack got it really right :-o . That shell isn't on the website :( .

That shell has got me thinking of getting some of thos special ZZ's and putting them on my shelf 'as is'.

@ Dave, see how the gold looks first with that shell. Gold may look surprisingly good on it. Requesting a Photoshop :-)

Yeah, its a new SE, not on the website yet, but in stores. They also have the new 007 Aston on the OG Zip Zap chassis.

Funny, I pulled one of your TVR bodies out of my mailbox on the way home with this, so I got an instant British sports car collection last night, makes me want to go back for the other. (What is that one, a DB7?)

Well I might just keep these wheels for a while. Looking at the trading card, the dished look of the alloys just wouldn't be right. :???:

Ok, so Sunday morning I mounted up the alloys. They were a little too tall and wide, to lower the car at all, in order to make it look right, but they looked so much better than the stock ones, I spent half the morning considering it. Then I was watching Car and Driver, and they just happened to show a Classic Car and Driver anniversary show, that featured their picks for the top European sports cars of all time, and James Bond's DB5 was featured. After watching that, I realized I had to lower it, to make the body lines work.

So after I lowered it, I'm really glad I went that route, it looks so much better. Now I just gotta find a die cast with some spoke wheels that are the right size to rob off of it, and I'll be set. :-o

It was little tricky to keep the lights this low. I had to take out part of the top of the window, so the light's PCB sat tucked up on the window. I still need to shave the mounts down for the rear lights, to let the gear spin, but that shouldn't be a problem. I'll take a pic of the inside when I get it shaved all properly.

I said it before, but I think you did a pretty nice job on those wheels as they are. Looks sweet! I saw that in RS the other day, and yeah, it's one of the nicest shells they've made to date.

CD, you know I'm a big fan of die cast wheels, but I must say, that car looks 100% right there. You did a great job painting them rims and the lowered stance is just right. Nice work. :-o

Oh and I agree w/ DT, wtf man, every time you are stuck on a ride, you watch TV and it comes on the show your watching. Now try that trick w/ porn while watching Opra, I dare ya!
