Boss Hoss: Tri-cell Dragger (updated)

I had this extra ZZ chassis I bought just to stick the Hummer body on my MT. I had been just sticking various bodies from body sets on it for display, hadn't even run it. So I got the Mustang body set, and the body looks great, but the chassis needed to back it up.

So I had bought a few of these stunt cars from BigLots for parts a while back, and had these dual cell packs laying around, I figured maybw a quick & easy dual cell, then I figured, what the hell, lets go tri-cell. I've only ever done one tricell zip, and it was a beast, but it was a mess of broken wires all the time, so I've avoided doing another. This one is so much cleaner, because the premade dual cell pack has thin metal tabs soldered on, which not only saves time, but saved the extra tiny bit of space needed to allow the extra batteries to just slip into the chassis. I used a couple scraps of CAT5 wire to attach the dual pack, so it wouldn't be breaking off.

I had ripped all the steering wires in half when I took the PCB cover off. My first tri cell zip was done in by a mended steering wire shorting on a battery, so as opposed to mending them, I turned the PCB around, so I could work with the short wires. I think it worked out perfectly.

All together, looks pretty tame, yeah the body looks bad ass, but who'd suspect?

This one is not super spectacular to look at, but it is super fun to play with, so I got excited and had to show it off. I forgot what it's like to hear the motor scream like that. Everyone should have at least one of these in their collection.

I bought the same body set and picked up a few ZZ's cheap off ebay just for the chassis. I put my body on one and back in the case it went

Guess it's time to do something with it now.........

That cool crazydave, had a chance to test her yet? She wild and crazy or what?
I take it the rims and wheels are from the stunt cars? I dig em.
Kinda surprised you didn't try to lower the front-end.

Oh yeah, I drive her good all weekend. It is way too fast for my little kitchen.

The wheels are just ZZ ones. The ones from the muscle car set, since the Mustang came with some blingin', stickin' out things that don't belong. The fatties in back are frm the recent wheels set. They're actually the off road tires, but I cut off that extra side wall so they'd work, and put that on the inside so the sloppiness is hidden.

I did put this body on a lowered chassis at first, but the perspective is all screwed up on this body. You ever see those Hot Wheels Blunts that are all small in back and huge in front? This car kinda has that perspective, where it gets bigger in the front. When I put it on the stock chassis, it reminded me of a drag car because it sits a tad higher in front, and they were still doing that on '65. Actually I just reallized, this is a prime candidate for a few decals.

It's hard to get that perspective on your own from the pics, but now that you mention it, I totally see what you're saying.

Looks pretty good. I like the decals. They fit that car perfectly. I bet it flys.

2 things, just suggestions;
The large black capacitor- You could desolder it and resolder it to the board with some small peices of wire. That way you can move it. You could lay it flat against the PCB. I do this to some of my cars because of space issues. Works fine.

Also, a dual cell runs a SS motor pretty well. I bet a SS motor would rock in that car. You've got the room and last time I looked TRU has them pretty cheap (if they're not sold out). CD that is just plain hot! I like the Tri Cell job and the chassis still looks real clean! The Body looks vary clean and those decals from Radical are really getting a work out! As always man vary nice work!

Good call, that thing was bugging me.

I should probably pick up some more of those motors, while they are available.

Either way, this will eventually get FETs and a faster gearing, and it'll be way too fast, more so than it is.

that setup is ultra fun when u get traction

and definately go with moving everything to the center of the board, u get too much room

I thought you already had fets in there. I saw the steering wires and thought that was part of a fet setup. Don't run the SS motor until you get fets in it, IF you even decide to use one. It wont have enough balls otherwise.

The other good thing about the SS motor is that it can handle the voltage and current from 3 or more cells better. I've burnt out a few motors with tri cell, quad cell and lithium setups. Now I don't even bother trying to use a bit motor with those setups. Fets are a must to run that SS motor though.
