I'm going to be like Nox, and tease you guys.

Got this plastic Explorer body. I'm going extend a Thunder Charger chassis to put under it, and go with all small bit rims. Paint it up, and detail it.

It's going to be about 1/4 inch longer than a Zip zap, so i should be able to cram 3 cells in no problem.


I'll be starting this weekend, more pics of my progress then.

Yeah, It's like purple chrome. I'm going to try to keep it in the flame, when I put a flame job on it.

I always love seeing new body styles on these cars.

Started work on it today, went pretty smooth, except 1 little glitch. I'm not sure how I did this, but I made the chassis about a 1/16 of an inch too short. I measured, and remeasured, and test fitted before I glued, but I still messed it up. At first I was majorly POed, but then I realized I have to dremel out the wheel well to allow the front wheels to turn, so maybe it will work out.

I extended the chassis using Zip Zap packaging, and super glue. Using the thickest pieces to make the bottom and sides, and used thin pieces on the inside to brace it. I tested it for durability, and it seems more than rugged enough, we'll see.

The small wheel conversion went over without a glitch.

I tested the chassis out and it works fine, just makes wider turns, as expected.

I still have to dremel the inside of the hood to allow the suspension room to move, and the bottom of the windows, to allow the body to sit low enough. Once I get it all fitting properly I'll paint the body and the chassis.




Think maybe I could fit another battery in there?

Try adding a little putty or some epoxy on the chassis where the extension pieces meet. My first ever extended chassis fell apart after a nice jolt and I did it using just crasy glue.

Yeah, I'll try that if I have a problem, but I think I got it good. Thanks for the tip though.

I laid a thick bead of some gel on the seam, took about an hour to dry completely, and essentially melted the plastic.

I was just twisting the chassis back and forth and it held up. I'm known for overtesting things, and this is holding up.

That thing is coming along nicely... Those Nakamichi rims are the coolest plastic rims available... IMO

Yep, I agree about those Nakamichi rims, unfortunately these are Thunder Charger rims. They're still pretty cool looking though, especially considering they're only $5 cars.
