shaq sellin cold heat irons

stopped in the shaq today and was bullshittin with the ham radio guy and i noticed this. i saw these on the web a while back. i even think theres a few threads on em here. dude opened the package up and damn it is nice. felt really good and the tip is nice. definatly gota get one soon.

Seriously, though... is it really that nice? My soldering iron went sliding off of the table one night last week when I was doing a quick fix... Well, you know how you instinctually grab something when it's falling? You should see the webbing between my thumb and pointer finger lol... crispy.

ya it has an led that shines at the tip. good rubberized grip.

Hate to burst your bubbles guys but unless you plan to use it to solder the Antenna back on an Xmod DON'T get it! The way a cold heat works is basically like a small bug zapper to the solder. Current passes through the tips heating up the solder like the bug. Some of that current will FRY FETs and any other parts on a PC board. If you are just soldering wires go for it.

and i know i cant spell sauder-you can live with it hog.
It's solder.
Anyway, I need a new soldering iron. The extent of my soldering is Deans plugs, wires, batteries, and antennas. Will this thing cover all the bases? I don't really know anything about these.

Should work for that but at $19.99 with extremely fragile (don't drop) tips spend $10 or less for a plain iron.

Fragile? Just how fragile is fragile? I know you said don't drop, but what if I put it in my toolbox and it rattles around? Would that be enough to destroy the tip? I'm really just interested in a quick to heat, quick to cool iron.

i dono the tip looked strange but in one review they said that whatever material it is made out of, solder doesnt stick to it which would be really good for little stuff. when i get some $$ hopefully in a day or two im gona grab one and ill let ya know.
the thing comes in a neoprinish case and has a plastic tip cover and a slot in the case to store the tip. all soldering tips break eventually.

From the ColdHeat Manual
We do not recommend it for soldering of large metallic components that require a lot of heat transfer or for soldering sensitive electronic components that may be damaged by fast-rising temperatures or high electrical current. (Momentary high-amperage current will be created during active soldering.)
