Progress pictures of my shoddy work
Hey guys,
Working on a little something here, so I thought I'd share some pictures.
I built the axle myself from some scraps I had lying around, seems to be true enough at this scale to work without problems.
Steering setup is working pretty well.
The chassis snapped on me and has been re-glued together, but I think I'll end up not using it anyway.
As you can see it's pretty scruffy, shouldn't look too bad once the axle is painted black.
Just waiting on some parts so I can get started on the driveline, should be much easier than the front axle.
I have some other electronics on the way, using an old 1/10 servo for the esc as the board is small, and I've got a FM TX/RX on the way too, but at the moment it's being controled by a board and battery from a micro heli.
Enough rambling, pictures time.

Nice start on a TTTT!!!!!!
Is your drag link kinda long? I ask because the steering ackerman in the bottom view looks like it might be a bit much.
It's looking killer so far.

Re: Progress pictures of my shoddy work
Thanks guys,
Frizzen - thanks, and yea it's prob a bit long really. Didn't really notice that before. There's more detail on display in the photo in comparison to what my blurry eyes can see most of the time when I'm hacking away at 2am.
I have a question, which may not be answerable.
Since this is being controled by a micro heli board, one that charges from the controler. Plug it in, controller tells you when its done kinda scenario.... The charge lead on the controler won't seem to let it charge at the moment.
So, I was thinking about buying one of those USB charging leads for other micro heli's.
But I'm unsure as to whether the charging circuit is in the controler or in the heli board ?
I'm thinking it's most likely in the controler, as that's where the blinker comes on when it's finished charging normally.
Like I said it might not be answerable, as you can't see the controler, but I can take pictures if needed.

hmm...
Hopefully BK won't want $500 US, mind you, Aussie wages are about 140% higher than NZ.

Re: Progress pictures of my shoddy work
Mmm, yea. Tough times all over huh.
On a brighter note, did some work on the truck today. Didn't really make any progress but I figured some things out.
Firstly I figured out I'm actually an idiot. The micro heli board has no reverse, so driving a truck with no reverse is just pointless.
So, maybe I have a spare mini-z board somewhere I can use.
I bought a FM Transmitter, and micro receiver. Turns out I have no idea of the receiver band. Hoping it's 72mhz as that's what the TX is. Either way I have no chrystals for it.
so it looks like I might just pick up a cheap AM TX and X-tals and use the Mini-z Board as an all in one solution. This means, though. That I'm going to have to invest in a Li-Po charger, or try and get a cheap broken micro heli again, and convert the controller into a wall charger for my truck...
Hmm.. much pondering.

Re: Progress pictures of my shoddy work
Well, had a little progress down here.
I added some springs and also produced a joint that lets it sway/rock.
In an earlier mockup you can see how it works, with no weight in the truck yet.
So that's all well and good, but I still had the earlier issue of the frame snapping on me and the servo not really fitting all that well inside the rails in any case.
So I built a basic frame from some box styrene I had bought for axle parts.
I also added a few of the OG frames detail parts to the new frame
So here is a very shitty photo how it sits as of now :
As this is somewhat of a experimental process, if I manage to pull this build off to get the truck functional I'm most definitely going to re-produce the frame and front axle from brass. Weight is great in this scale, heavy parts low down makes for some great scale driving.
