Canned Heat VW+bird=SILLY

Post by Bird »

So I've had these two Tyco Canned Heat hoopties layin' around for a few years... I had a gift certificate a few years back and Kaufmans didn't have any Pumas or OG Adidas or anything else I really wanted so I grabbed these cars... Got a red S2000 and a green Veedub. I started thinking about messing around with them a few months ago, but never did anything..

About a month ago I was on a late night munchie run to my local convenience store and I saw these little goofy monster truck pullbacks... I grabbed one and was going to grab another on my next visit, but they were all gone by then. My kids made the one I had disappear for a few weeks, and I came across it in their toybox last week.

Anyway, one night a few days ago I was looking at the little truck thinking about what I could pilfer from it for other stuff... and the VW popped into my head. I got busy on it and an hour later I had swapped the wheels from the pullback onto it and lowered it a bit... Here is the silliness that resulted:

I like the green, so I won't ruin it trying to play picasso lol...

Now I want to body-drop the S2K lol.

I have comments about it all, but before my dumb ass forgets...
I just wanna mention that your topic title is what lured me here, specifically the "Canned Heat" part.
whether by your design or not - it got me.

with that - the lower job looks awesome.
but the wheels (up front) are just too small, makes it look out of place (referring back to the critisism thread)
other than that - I have no qaulms about this one - sometimes a solid color is what it deserves and speaks volumes.

I'm glad you kept the VW symbol and I'm more glad you called it a Veedub (aka VDub) whether you know how it got started or not

nice smooth work. masking out the logo can be a biatch I know.
you coulda masked out the trim between the back and front windows if you were feeling particularly "zoned and pimpish" but even though you didn't - it doesn't look horribly bad at all - flows right along.

I also think you have more in you than just solid red or silver for the front or back, but I understand your hesitance.
but put all that together and for you - you don't have a finished car.
you copped out.

I know you're better - I can see it right here in this job.
you have the skills, I'm just guessing you didn't put enough faith in yourself.
sure - you might have screwed it up, but then again - better chance says that you wouldn't have.

next time go for it dude, don't play it safe.

and remember, I'm only being critical because of the recent thread about it. I've made plenty of my own mistakes/learning experiences.
so I'm not railing on you as much as offering up some constructive critisisms/advice and support.

word to bigbird.

I'm all for the criticism, but you're criticizing the wrong fella lol... That is the stock green that it came from Tyco sportin', and their taillight decals and whatever that is they're tryin' to pass for headlights lol. I just hit it with some wax before I put it back together lol. Damn... now ya got me wantin' to paint it.

The "Canned Heat" thing is what it says on the tube it comes in, so I just always called it that... I'm pretty sure it's like 1/32 scale, or something like that. It is like a big ass bit, magnet steering and shit, and has a controller like a Shen or any other bubble clone, so it drives like a bit. 219 and myself shot some vid of my S2K and the Tyco SSR he just got, and it should be up soon... I'm pretty sure it's gonna be called "Big Ass Bits".

You have no idea how bad I want to come across another one of those little monster truck pullbacks to put proper wheels on the front... that's why I called it silly, those tiny wheels are straight up silly... If and when I find another one, I'm grabbin' it to finish this right.

Dammit.

CeeDub is right.

I gotta quit second guessing myself. I'll never get any better if I don't take some risks.

I'm gonna paint this bitch.

do it dude.
I had no clue about those other details...
kinda make a difference.
but the only thing it don't make a difference in is the the faith I have and the knowledge I know - that you can, and if you want, can make it better.
I've seen it - maybe not in this one or maybe another.
I know it's in you.
