Was in Wally today looking for some NOS bottles for a friend, and came across a sole loner Road Champs Nascar Tony Stewart car.

Had to get it. The packaging is liscensed stuff all over and has a helmet that has a flip up visor that serves as a charger and a controller that is really confortable in the hands that is bigger than a tomy, due to molding of checker flagged plastic.

The detail is great, wide slicks on the car and even yellow GOODYEAR stamped on them. The car looks quite to scale and nice.

Performance.....if I could slow it down a bit, it might be the best runner I got...!!! Only problem is motor is hardwired and I know people have modded around that, but not sure of how to actually do it.

Uses VERY strong and reliable motor steering and out of the box it went straight as an arrow with the trim set in the middle!!!

The range is about 20 feet, but for some reason now and then it cuts out....and loses signal. The controller uses a 9volt so it shouldn't do that, but I'll check into it further.

The car is as fast as about a tomy 2.6 or 2.2 and has SEVER over steer. It is so light, and fast, it just slides in the turns. If I could put a EM 1.0 or 1.6 in there, I'd run the piss out of it...and the motor for steering is under the pcb which I haven't looked at yet, but seems quite sufficient and doesn't really need changed.

The thing I noticed that struck me as a mistake or a design feature(haven't figured it out yet) is some toe in that looks to be done that way on purpose. Seem that the car goes so damn straight, that has to be a part of the reason.

The car was 19.97, and that was about the best 20 bucks I have spent in a while....

So, that said, I give this a 9 out of 10 and if I can get a slower motor in there, I am sure it will be as good if not better than my zz's as far as handling.

In a rather large box, about 8-10 inces long, 6-8 high, 6-8 deep...for those who care to look.

I am not a huge nascar fan, actually, not really a fan at all, but for the money and the uniqueness, I couldn't pass it up, and it may just end up being one of my best runners...

Any clue on how to mod the hard wired motor to be changed to a slower one?

you need a clone chassis that has the motor mount clips, two wires and a soldering iron.

solder the motor mount clips to the end of each wire. desolder the motor from the pcb. solder the other end of the wires to the pcb. hopefully the chassis will hold the mount clips like a bit chassis does and you can just pop the motor in like a normal bit. another option is to solder the wires from the pcb directly to the motor. one on bottom one to the side.

i would say just get used to the speed and work on making the car handle better at those speeds.

Yeah, I saw these in TRU last week. I didn't like how they greyed out the windows though. The hlemet charger was cool though.

I went ahead and picked one up since they had my favorite driver...

It is about a 2.2 motor, but the steering sucks! It turns way to wide, the worst I've seen yet.

Well, for those interested, I did some fiddling and here is the end result.

I had to high expectations for this car unfortunately.

I modded the motor down to an EM 1.0, which was 10 times better on the steering issue, but, was too slow for my tastes....so I did a EM 1.6, perfect speed, but it phucked the steering all up again....and since I have no motor in between, I think I am done with this one.... With the 1.6 it wasn't as bad steering as stock, but still, not getting around my track any time soon...

So, that said, next time, I'll not have such high hopes for a car. Wal Mart will get this kat back this weekend....
