Cobra Spin Tracer--Review

Want to talk about micro boats or micro planes? How about trains, slot cars or submarines? Well you can do it all right here. If it's another hobby and it doesn't fit in one of our other forums, then it goes here.

Cobra Spin Tracer--Review

Post by sg219 »

I was at the local swap meet this past Sunday morning and saw this thing, it looked cool so I picked up 2 different cars. I bought them for $8 each, NIB.

It is called the Cobra Spin Tracer--Made by JIA HONG from China....

Well here is my reveiw/thoughts.

Image

The box states 10km/h, its not lying, I put one on the Speed Checker I just got today and it hit 10, but averaged 9. This still isn't very fast, but at least it is true. This was with crappy Alkaline batts, I need to do a small mod to get the slightly thicker IC3's to fit and work properly. The battery compartment is a tight fit for them, I need to remove the battery spacers in it.

The box shows several more cars are avalible.

The front lights on the Lancia are easily removed. They are screwed on to the body.

The cars have a ton of stickers on them, but the bodies are very solid and detailed.

The windows, light covers, and tail lights can be removed with little work for painting.

Here is the remote, both cars run on 27mhz.

The underside. It has a pivoting rear motor pod, which it easily removable. No stupid H-plate crap!!

The motor pod removed and broken down. It has a differential and an Xmod sized motor!! The rear wheels are screwed on and the front wheel are pinned on like a bit with big knuckles.

The car has magnet steering like a Tyco canned car. It works fine in this car. The wheels are two pieces, the hubcaps are removable. The tires are hard plastic, not very good for kitchen fun, but not bad.

Overall its a cool import with great bodies!! It handles like a big bit and has some potential due to it having a common sized motor.

The electronics are open under the roof on raised pegs that give about 3/8in clearence between the board and the chassis. Possiblity of more cells easily done because of the gap and the battery tabs being exposed!!

The car uses 3 "AA" and the controller uses 1 "9V". The car is very light!!

I'll have pics of the board later, for all you electric junkies.

Video is being edited tonight, hopefully. I'll have it up on sg219.com tonight possibly, or in the next day or so.

Any questions just post'em and I'll try to answer them. Hope I covered all the main stuff.

My light hearted question to everyone.

I wonder if Spin Tracer has permission from iWaver, that might need permission from Mini-Z, to use round wheels? :???:

Enjoy and have a great ride!! :-) :-)

My internet connection has been working sporadically for the past few days... I'm hatin' it.

@219... They had better have bought the copyright to those wheels, and the wires, too!!! That's someones intellectual property they made that $8 off of!!!

Those are pretty cool rally bodies though, I'm damn sure I'll have to put a rally body on the Iwaver! Better find me an outlaw WRC forcus, gotta be outlaw to maintain yo' rep n' th' hood!
